Please John Schneider, don't give Jimmy Garcia a playoff roster spot. I just can't bear it.
I don't think there's a team in baseball that would leave Garcia off their playoff roster if they had him.

His surface numbers are ok and his peripherals are excellent. You probably don't want him in your highest leverage innings, but... he probably won't be, so that's fine.

Yeah, Yimi makes every single teams postseason roster.

I’d probably put Green, Mayza, Hicks and Swanson in a game before Garcia, but in a long playoff series you have to have decent depth in the bullpen and Garcia is exactly that.

If the Jays make the WC series pitching roster will be interesting.

Gausman, Bassitt and Berrios are your starters.

Romano, Hicks, Swanson, Mayza, Green, Cabrera, and Garcia are next.

You have 4 more spots which presumably will go to Ryu, Kikuchi, and Richards.

Maybe Richards doesn’t make it if you have Ryu and Kikuchi as potential bulk guys. Maybe you want more velo out of the pen so Pearson?

Also if you have a starter pitch games 161 or 162 you may not have them available 2, 3 or 4 days later for games 1, 2 or potentially 3 of a WC series. Especially if it’s a guy like Ryu. He needs more rest and Kikuchi can pitch out of the pen where Ryu likely can’t or shouldn’t. Richards swinging and miss may be worth more to you tuna Ryu. So perhaps the Jays look at Pearson, Jackson or someone like Francis over Ryu.

Cimber has also pitched 3 innings in 4 outings with Buffalo. If the Jays clinch at any point before the end of the season I bet he gets a look.

Do you trust Berrios on the road? I kinda don't. Hot take, I'd start Ryu on the road ahead of Berrios.

He's been better at home, but he still has a sub-4 ERA on the road this year. It's not like he has ridiculous splits or anything.

If there's anyone to worry about on the road, it's Bassitt - 3.08 ERA at home, 4.50 ERA on the road.

It’d be pretty hard to miss the playoffs now.

Given Seattle plays Houston and Texas again to end the season, is there even a plausible scenario where the Jays could miss? I think the Jays could conceivably lose every single remaining game after today and still make it.
It took a bit of thinking, but you are probably correct.

There's a strong potential that the Jays could actually finish with a better record than the AL West team that gets a bye to the ALDS, and would actually finish 3rd overall in the AL (behind Baltimore/Tampa)

In addition, the Jays are guaranteed they will play the Wild Card series on the road.

If the Jays do drop down to the 3rd wildcard spot, they're basically set to play the Twins, who again, the Jays likely will have a better overall record but will be forced to play the Wild Card Series on the road.
Our road record is better than our home record.

I find it kinda remarkable that Gausman managed to go the entire season without facing the Rays.

Zero chance Kikuchi/Ryu goes against them in a WC series especially with B. Lowe and Raley likely missing it. The one series I think you'd actually stand to benefit from playing Kikuchi and Ryu in would be against the Twins.

Vladdy's September has been incredibly weird. He's gone from hitting laser beam groundballs up the middle to extreme pulling average EV flyballs that still have only a little bit of loft. Everything is down by statcast measurements except a slight tick in LA (from 10 to 10.9), but he's not chasing at all (cut down by like 12%) and he's pulling by far the most in his career.

Vladdy pulling a ball in the air is an incredibly good sign given that that has been his biggest problem all year.

It's been a problem his entire career lol. This year is currently the highest pull% of his career.

The approach (best BB/K of any month in his career) and batted ball profile did a polar opposite flip this month. He's chasing less and turning on pitches in the heart of the zone, but he's also not exactly barreling them like in the past.

It's obviously intriguing, but weird how drastic the change has been this month.

Rays like the soft stuff that Ryu lobs in there. Berrios is 100% my game 2 starters whether it's at home, the road or on mars.
