Who do we prefer winning tonight? Angels and Houston?

I could be very wrong but 2nd WC plays Tampa at the Trop for 3 straight I believe... sounds horrible for the Jays. 3rd WC gets lowest divisional winner? I know it's hard to pick your spot but that would seem more ideal to play Minnesota in a perfect world.

If the Jays make the WC series pitching roster will be interesting.

Gausman, Bassitt and Berrios are your starters.

Romano, Hicks, Swanson, Mayza, Green, Cabrera, and Garcia are next.

You have 4 more spots which presumably will go to Ryu, Kikuchi, and Richards.

Maybe Richards doesn’t make it if you have Ryu and Kikuchi as potential bulk guys. Maybe you want more velo out of the pen so Pearson?

Also if you have a starter pitch games 161 or 162 you may not have them available 2, 3 or 4 days later for games 1, 2 or potentially 3 of a WC series. Especially if it’s a guy like Ryu. He needs more rest and Kikuchi can pitch out of the pen where Ryu likely can’t or shouldn’t. Richards swinging and miss may be worth more to you tuna Ryu. So perhaps the Jays look at Pearson, Jackson or someone like Francis over Ryu.

Cimber has also pitched 3 innings in 4 outings with Buffalo. If the Jays clinch at any point before the end of the season I bet he gets a look.

I’d be leaving Ryu off the WC roster and adding Bowden Francis who has an ERA of like 1.00 in his last 30+ innings.

I don't mind if Houston loses either. If Houston loses, they will have 3 more losses then the Jays and we hold the tie breaker. It would be really hard for them to catch the Jays.
I would much rather the Astros push the Mariners further away from the WC, and the Rangers just win the AL West.

Angels were up on Texas 1-0 in the 6th.

The Rangers just his back to back to back jacks. Texas up 3-1

Go to Minny and get Gray and Lopez, or a very banged up Tampa team that the Jays just put up 21 runs against in taking 2 out of 3?

I take TB as Minny is playing better right now.

Ryu had one bad outing. How are Bowden's MLB playoff stats as a starter? I forget.

It’d be pretty hard to miss the playoffs now.

Given Seattle plays Houston and Texas again to end the season, is there even a plausible scenario where the Jays could miss? I think the Jays could conceivably lose every single remaining game after today and still make it.
I think they need 1-2 more wins just to be safe.

Minny is playing better, and the Jays had Tampa's number a bit lately but still.. so many years of us not being able to win there. It is hard to see the mojo switching this season but it should be a challenge this team is up to if they can get some guys hitting.

They don’t need 2 bulk guys for a 3-game WC series. The 3 starters are set and you have Kikuchi as the bulk guy if one goes out early.

Francis’ playoff stats as a starter? Why on earth would that even matter? He’s effective velocity out of the pen which is huge in the playoffs. I want as many hard-throwing pen arms on the playoff roster as possible.

I think we beat TB even in a three game set at the Trop.

I think it's technically 3.

If the Jays go 3-3 the rest of the way, Seattle has to be perfect to catch them. If Seattle is perfect, then Houston can't catch them.
Realistically though if the Jays wins one and Seattle loses one it's pretty much over.

It is 3.

Houston can win 91, whereas Seattle can only win 90 (but Seattle has the tiebreak over Toronto)

Someone has to win tonight which will drop the number of wins needed to 90 (regardless of the 3rd game of the series). Also of note, Seattle holds the tiebreaker over Houston so in the case of a 3 way tie, Houston would actually be eliminated.

The Jays have played themselves in a good enough spot to secure WC3, but I don’t think you can risk tanking WC2 to try and get the “easier” opponent. Rays are battered. They have two elite starters but their lineup has taken a beating recently. The Twins similarly have lost Lewis and are likely getting back a struggling Buxton, but they’ve still kept hot recently and could be just as tough of an opponent.

Yes, you get the O’s afterward as opposed to the Rangers, but honestly, I still take that pitching matchup vs the O’s everyday of the week. The Rangers also feature a lot more power bats that were making the dome look like the GABP.

Every opponent is good even if you might think the Twins are far worse than the rest of the competition. They have a great home record and have played well vs teams over .500.
