They've done ok against the Yankees and Rays, and they swept Boston last time they played. At least there's no Baltimore.
12-25 against AL East, 3-7 against the Sox, and 3-4 against the Rays and Yankees. Those games worry me the most, hence why winning these games and the Rangers ones are huge, so if they do struggle a bit against the rivals at least they got some cushion.

3-7 against the Sox is really puzzling. Red Sox are an alright team, but they are not great by any means. They are 7 games back of Toronto, and a playoff spot. Bizarre.

Funny how quickly the "Varsho stats since mechanical changes" narrative has dissipated. Hitting .234/.306/.383 since the All Star break, .606 ops for the year. He has a defense-driven fWAR of 1.6, but even Kevin Pillar had a better OPS than that in all but one of his seasons in Toronto. Meanwhile, Gabriel Moreno has a .742 OPS and 1.4 fWAR in 44 fewer games including a 44% caught stealing rate.

He has a wRC+ of 102 since August which is more in line with his previous years. Definitely in a slump now. He seems to be hitting more weak popups again.

Overall, a disappointing season offensively.

So Moreno would still be the 3rd best catcher on the team?

It is a little bit, especially how the Jays crushed them last season.
It’s not really puzzling at all how f you’ve noticed that the Consistency level of this team has been off all year. Why would having a losing record against the Red Sox be so surprising? We almost lost a series to Oakland!

People gotta wake up and realize nothing is surprising in baseball. It takes commitment, it takes work ethic. “It’s surprising Boston is 7-3 against this year…..” is it? Is it really surprising to you? Is it really surprising with this team?

Now do a Jansen update.

Again compared to last season it is a little surprising, and the fact that before this season started Jays were supposedly the deepest team in the MLB, so what happened?

Um, Varsho still has a 111 wRC+ in 130 PA since the mechanical changes. Not sure if you thought this post would be some kind of gotcha, but for someone who is only not in CF everyday because KK is here, if Varsho puts up a 111 wRC+ in CF next year with his defense he will easily be one of the team's most valuable pieces.

And they were doing poorly when we played them ironically except for when we swept them lol.

I like Varsho but he’s been a pretty heavy disappointment offensively. This was not any kind of projection for him. He should have improved coming here but he’s tanked. Hopefully this is the outlier year for him. I hate that we lost Moreno but that’s been discussed to death already. We just need to hope for a Berrios turn arounf for him next year.

Yeah, even if the mechanical changes stick and lead to better numbers, he's still going to have a shitty week once in a while like every other player who has ever played baseball. Coming in with a "told ya so!" post after five bad games is a little strange.

I’m begging them to stop hitting into double-plays. At the very least, stop doing it so early in the count.

Draw two walks against a tonight pitcher and both were immediately wiped out by poor choices by the next batter.
