lol. He'd be the third catcher on seniority but he's easily the best catcher on talent. Since we love arbitrary sample sizes here, he's hitting .308/.388/.575 with 5 homeruns over his last 30 games. His total numbers are better than Realmuto's were at the same age. I like his chances of becoming a top 10 catcher at least, and we traded him for glorified Kevin Pillar with more homeruns. It will be fun to see the rationalizations of why it was either such a good trade or it was necessary or both when that time comes.

I don’t even care about seniority. I’m talking about current season value. Moreno, like Kirk and Jansen, struggled in the first half of the season. Well all three have been impressive in the 2nd half. Yes Jansen is hurt, again, but Moreno hasn’t exactly been the most durable player to start his pro career.

I’ve never seen someone have such a hard on in hating Jansen and to suggest that he’s overrated by the fan base is hilarious. Just look at the numbers he’s put up over the last 3 years. 6 fWAR in 228 games, T-9 among catchers since 2021 with Kirk. Moreno has 1/3 of his wins in roughly half the games played.

Is he talented? Of course. But the Jays also have their CF of the present and future. If Pillar consistently put up that 2015 season he would’ve been one of the best CFs of the 2010s so I’m not even sure how that would be a bad tradeoff. Varsho’s basically the new KK (this isn’t even taking in offensive progression) and that’s not a bad guy to have in CF going forward.
