The bats were great. They got some luck but they put a lot of balls in play. Baserunning was excellent as well.

The defense was very good other than Bo.

The pitching was off outside of a few players. Manoah lacked a quality slider. I really liked Swanson. A few dumb manager mistakes but they still won. Entertaining game. Bring on Saturday!

Forgot to add, the Cards do have an excellent lineup.

I hated taking out Pop and Swanson while they eere rolling.

A little too much overthinking and not enough feel for Game 1

Nope, you put Mayza in there. There are 2 outs and 2 lefties coming up. Always easy to second guess decisions after you know the outcome
No chance.

Swanson throws harder and is good against lefties.

I didn't second guess, I said it as it was happening.

No reason to take out Pop for Swanson with two outs and he is at 14 pitches.

Then you don't need to take out Swanson at 15 pitches with a day off tomorrow.

Pop's stuff was electric today. His arm side run was working well with his slider.

Matchups are what cost the Jays the last playoff game. No reason to take out Gausman. I am all in favour of having informatiion to work with, but you need in game feel for how a guy is rolling

It’s the first game of the season, you don’t start running guys out there for more pitches than you are comfortable with, they obviously had those numbers in mind. Mayza throws mid 90’s as does Swanson, so speed wasn’t a factor.

Mayza’s job is to get lefties out, hence bring him in to do his job. If he fails and continues to fail, than you know you may need to look at other options

I didn't like the move but Mayza had two chances to get two lefties out and failed. That's why he's on the team to get lefties out. More of a failure on his part than Schnider's.

The worst managerial decision was not walking Arenado.

I agree in theory with everything you are saying.

My point is Pop is usually low leverage because he is inconsistent. When he is on, which he was today you need to use him to max value. That is the feel part.

The Jays are guilty of just using the matchup model.

Now if Shneider came out and said we had Pop and Swanson on hard pitch counts it is a different thing

9 pitchers in one game. Crazy, there were times in the modern era that an MLB team would only have 9 or 10 pitchers total on its roster.

Game 1 and Bo already pissing me off. 2 bad throws already. And people keep defending him? He is not learning and that’s the concerning part.

I think he’d be a perfect 2B right now and I know the organization has explored options for getting a SS this past offseason. But it’s just not out there right now. Hopefully he can learn, he’s still young. His offensive production is too valuable. You gotta give him more time to develop the defensive side.

You are absolutely right. Just really annoyed me yesterday seeing same old Bo in the field. We definitely need him to better if we are to win the World Series.

I think it's fair to say that his decision making is not great and the throwing error in the 1st should have been one that he just held onto. Does 2nd base make that much sense? Possibly. But it seems like they've committed to him there.

I think in an ideal world we trade for a SS, move Bo to 2B Merrifield to the bench. A tulo type trade to bolster the roster.

But I hear you, it’s been 2 and a half 3 years of Bo figuring it out!
