The real problem is Grier. If he's smart, he's gonna pick Michkov.
Michkov is a risk... yet they picked the riskier in Slaf with a #1 oa then proceeded to throw him directly in the nhl and not sending him to world junior. But Michkov is where we draw the lineBut the risks!!??? Why would the flyers do this?? Ugh... Only in Montreal is this even a question, so annoying.
It's such a no brainer.
Anthony Martineau was able to get an interview with Mr Michkov, and posted it to Twitter.
Not sure who the guy is in the background but he certainly seemed happy to be there and see Mr Michkov.

Mind Boggling
Looked into that Twitter thread further and we now have a better idea of that background guy:
Reading all the user comments, there were 3 questions by Habs fans inquiring about Martineau’s height.
people don't talk about this enough, I wish it was more studied. There might even be some predictive value in just (somehow) measuring someone's posture, for prospects say.
Flyers are earlier in their rebuild than we are.But the risks!!??? Why would the flyers do this?? Ugh...
Flyers are earlier in their rebuild than we are.
Only explanation that I see is their internal rankings. They either sense a significant drop off after Michkov (top 5) or they have clearly bought into Michkov being the 2nd best player in a premium draft and they’re willing to overlook the other factors. And since they are at the very start of their rebuild, they’re willing to wait for him.
Could also be they have particular actionable intel that other teams don’t.
For them to want to go all out, there has to be something major.
NHL insiders: really hard to get access to Michkov
Habs fans: hold my beer while I grab my mini-hockey stick
Gotta be Elvis elevator shoes since they’re in Tennessee.Maybe Michkov is wearing heels. Just saying.
Flyers have maybe been la crème de la crème of draft morons in the past decade. Apparently they’re smartening up a bit with Brière. Capitals will need to pull another rabbit out of a hat.If number 7 and 22 is enough to draft Michkov then there's a bunch of morons managing NHL hockey teams.
Vancouver just got a fella from SKA for free and he scored 40 goals somehow :/It's not like SKA doesn't produce great NHLers. I'm reviewing tape and honestly at some point you don't draft personality, you draft talent.
That’s not the point though.I think Michkov fits in perfectly with our timeline, as when we finally become competetive, here comes this potential star on his ELC. If would be of great benefit to us.
This is a positive. Not the opposite.
And ofcourse there's a significant drop off WE ALL know that, hence making passing even more perplexing.
A few things:The risk is extremely overstated. I just don't understand.
The amount of meme potential is off the charts and on an NHL level already with Will Smith, while Michkov had ECHL potential in that are.Two things I don't understand regarding Michkov.
They love Smith, but Michkov has many of the same attributes and is honestly more skilled.
They don't like that they can't control his development, but they traded excellent assets for Dach and Newhook, players they had no control over for 3-4 years, but were even mismanaged. It's not like SKA doesn't produce great NHLers. I'm reviewing tape and honestly at some point you don't draft personality, you draft talent.
It's less than 24 hours from the draft and I guess I've arrived at my final decision, which would be Michkov.
Maybe they can trade us Caufield for the 5th. Oh wait…Flyers have maybe been la crème de la crème of draft morons in the past decade. Apparently they’re smartening up a bit with Brière. Capitals will need to pull another rabbit out of a hat.
If he was sent down to MHL/VHL and wanted to buy his contract out, would that make it less for him, they'd still go with his KHL salary, or not sure as it's rather random ?So Matvey Michkov's contract with SKA from the little I found online is as follows :
Past years:
2021/22: 5 million rubles with SKA / 2.5 million rubles with VHL or MHL.
2022/23: 10m SKA/5m VHL/MHL
Upcoming years:
2023/24: 15m SKA(175,650.00 usd)/7.5m VHL/MHL
2024/25: 25m SKA (292750.00 usd) / 12.5m VHL/MHL
2025/26: 30M SKA (351300.00 usd)/ 15m VHL/MHL
As an 18yr old going to the nhl he can sign an ELC for a max of 3 years at 950000.00 usd + can get performance bonuses of up to 3.5mil so a total of 4.45 mil.
It would therefore cost him 819,700.00 usd to buy out his KHL contract and would mean he'd profit at a minimum 2,030,300$ usd in 3 years even if he doesn't earn a single bonus and 12,530,300$ usd if he earms them all. That's quite a difference.
