I'll keep an eye on this.....but this was said this morning and the odds just changed drastically in the last hour. Last year it did the same with Slafkovsky.

On Fanduel, Michkov is now 2nd most probable at 2nd overall.
Both sites, major shift.

It would be wild if Michkov went 2nd. The Jackets would be particularly ecstatic considering they’ve already locked in they’re taking a Center.

Seravalli said: “There were scouts and teams buzzing on Tuesday night in Nashville, essentially saying ‘hey there’s a lot of chatter out there that the Ducks might take Michkov at #2’”

So maybe some of that momentum and chatter at the event is starting to sway things

He also mentioned how apparently Verbeek has already publicly and openly stated that he’s drafting a Center. I googled it, and couldn’t find anything of the sort. So I dunno if anyone has a link to those comments from Verbeek, but I don’t remember seeing that anywhere.

I just took a quick look at their website today:

Leonard at 5:

Smith thinks it would be special to play in Montreal

Michkov dreams of playing in the NHL

Habs might be convinced with Michkov

You’re right, around serious people, I should be too.
has nothing to do with being serious or not, i dont think its necessary to go back and fourth for personal reasons here,

Brock Otten Director of Scouting from McKeens Hockey was on TSN690 earlier today and he was asked if there was a player projected to go in the top 10 this year that he was less enthused by.

He answered yes and said Reinbacher. Said he wonders if they're elevating Reinbacher only because the crop of dmen this year isn't that terrific. I agree with him and I also think taking Reinbacher @ 5 is just too high considering other players who will still be available.

The Reinbacher question is about 10 minutes in if you want to listen to his full answer or the entire interview.

Would amuse me to no end if Michkov went second overall. Wasn’t good enough for some folks around here at 5th overall lol.

THIS. I've been writing it since 3 months. Reinbacher should be between 10-15. Not 5-10.

Grier wasn't a goon. LOL! He was a very high scoring Boston University kid who could put 15-20 goal seasons in the NHL, and was a good two-way player. He maybe averaged 1-2 fights per season and didn't rack up many PIMs. Are you confusing him with Oilers teammate BGL?

I wouldn't be surprised if Grier makes a surprise pick (e.g. Ryan Leonard). His early GM tenure has been somewhat unconventional and I don't think he cares what anyone thinks.

I could've sworn he was more of a fighter, I overstated his fighting acumen then, but I don't remember Grier being anything more than a checking forward at best. I wouldn't say he was a good two way player.

That said, the sharks are ageing. IMHO, Carlsson and Leonard are in the same tier, but they'll pick the guy who projects more as a C is my guess.

I lowered my expectations about the draft.

With the Newhook trade, it spells to me the end of Michkov in Montreal, which makes me sad.

Now I just don't want Reinbacher at #5. At #7-8, I could live with it. At #5, I don't think I could handle it.

Renaud Lavoie said on radio that he would pick Michkov and that the Habs should not, not draft him because of politics. And that if you pick him, you can still trade him in the next 3 years if you dont like what you see.

He also said, from his point of view Montreal had Michkov on their not-drafting list, but they were impressed by the meeting with him, before finalising their list yesterday night. So they might be more willing to draft him now.

All surprising coming from Renaud.

If Carlsson drops all the way to 5 he must’ve had a ton of character issues. Am I right to think so?

Like Michkov right?
Lack of upside compared to the insane talent of the other players is the only explanation I can found.
