You’re missing the point.

You don’t draft a defenseman in an offense heavy top 10. High end talent slips because there are so many scorers that you FINALLY a top 5 elite scorer. We’ve been screaming for one as an organization.

Reinbacher is a good defenseman. But we 100% could draft a comparable defenseman in the top 10 next year which is a defense heavy draft.

Our last 4 top 5 picks have been Galchenyuk, Kotkaniemi, Slafkovsky and Reinbacher. There is zero scoring talent to come out of it.

This is not about Reinbacher. It’s about this F’in organization’s allergy to talent. So damn tired of this.
Galchenyuk was highly rated as offensive.

This is just players not working out

Getting a #1 RHD is supperrrr hard, so I get the pick.

I see what they are doing, they have their #1 C, now hopefully a #1 RHD and wouldn't be surprised to see a #1 G prospect being picked up.

The rebuild will be really long however.
Which 1C? Suzuki is technically a number one but it's not like he's a huge star. I love him, excellent mind and so reliable but he barely gets 60 in a high-scoring era. I think he can get ~80 at some point but meanwhile more and more teams have 90-100 points forwards now. It's not 2014 anymore.

Edstrom was the guy I wanted for that #37 pick.

Newhook better f***ing be a 25g, 35a player next year! (60 pts).
I really like Edstrom too but the odds of him being where Newhook is now at age 22 is highly unlikely.

I'd settle for continued progress from Newhook rather than focusing on a 60 point season.

Not sure Suzuki is a number 1 center personally. Still not sold. He's a very good center and could work in a 1A/1B situation but for that to happen Dach (or Newhook) will need to fully develop as a dominant 60+ points center. Suzuki as the main man in front of a normal 2nd line center wont cut it imo. More often than not against the best teams Suzuki will be the weakest 1st line center of the two.

I think a lot of people don't believe he has that elite #1 potential.

That's why the pick seems underwhelming

I stepped away from this board for a bit after the Habs picked so this was likely already posted but this was pretty much me when the pick was made and likely the same for many many other Hab fans as well.

When his whole opinion of Reinbacher is "a defenceman from Austria", you know how much it actually means.

We'll be back in the lottery again next year. I figure 6-10.
I think a lot depends on injuries. But our healthy lineup could surprise:

Caufield - Suzuki - Dvo/Monahan
RHP - Dach - Anderson
Slaf - Monahan/Dvo - Newhook
Gallagher - Evan's- Ylonen
Pez, Hoffman, Armia

Guhle - Savard
Matheson - Barron
Harris - Xhekaj
Edmundson, Kovacevic

Likely but there is no guarantee. Habs won't be tanking and who knows how many teams will give up early like Detroit did last season.

Majority of teams won't be tanking this year.

Washington, Calgary, Buffalo, Ottawa, Vancouver, Pittsburgh all have playoff aspirations. Columbus should improve too.

Anaheim, Chicago, San Jose, Arizona, Philadelphia should be among bottom 5 teams still.

We're where Detroit is. Not terrible, but not competitive enough to be outside of top 10.

In 48h Hughes killed all the excitement I build up from that s*** season about that draft. I thought he did well last year but starting at the deadline I don’t see anything good
