I’ve seen a lot of him, definitely has the makings of a very good Jr.A recruit. True late bloomer , didn’t play any Jr hockey until he was 19.

Agreed, He is a good player, one of several from Mirimachi who are, really impressed with them in MHL Final, and the Centennial Cup!

That's a lot of Junior A guys. Hopefully for Laurier they can step up to USports level.

Paris O'brien (aka Yongli Ouban) is interesting. Other than the KHL, I wonder if the other leagues he played in are considered Pro.

I don't believe the MHL/VHL count towards eligibility - Waterloo's Nolan Lee took this same route, then joined the Warriors for three seasons, and the roster lists his eligibility year as 3rd.
Looking at O'Brien's elite prospects page, it looks like his 8 games in the KHL in '21-'22 is the only season he played overseas after his age-21 year anyway, so he'll likely have 4 years of eligibility.

I don't know how USports treats these leagues but the MHL is a junior league and the VHL is their "2nd division".

It is probably around average (in terms of percentage who have played higher than Tier II) for their recruiting for the last decade or so. Of the 9 - 4 have CHL experience, 1 has Russian pro experience (KHL is a new one....), leaving 4 with solely Tier II experience.

Their roster usually averages around 24-28 players, with somewhere between 10-15 with major junior experience, most of whom have finished their junior careers in Junior A/B. Most who come directly from the CHL are foregoing their overage year with the exception of goaltenders.

Laurier has been an underwhelming program since Kelly Nobes left. Given the quality of the school, its location, and its focus on athletics, I'd ague that they are underachieving badly. They should be contending for an OUA Crown instead of scraping into the playoffs.
