Buffalo is the one threat to NJ for Meier, I've said this all along.

Vegas just took themselves out of the running with the Barbashev deal. The Knights have a very low-end prospect pool -- their top prospect is Sapovaliv, who has no chance to crack the NJ top 5. I'm not sure Vegas would have another prospect in the NJ top 10, it's actually debatable. What do they have to give?

We're not sure what Vegas gave up for Barbashev, but he further fattens the Vegas cap woes while thinning the prospect pool. They're out.

I'd say it's just NJ now in the Meier sweeps unless Buffalo makes a stand.

Buffalo will be desperate, they just put Tuch on IR and Dahlin is day to day. They really want to add but I have to think they’d focus on Chychrun and possibly a goalie like Talbot.

I made the same point in the last team thread somewhere. It's no longer a given that the cap will be shooting up in a year or two.
It will go up slightly as the players debt will be paid.

That said given deal coming off the books and what the team has locked in a Meier contract is manageable.

Yeah I can't describe Timo as a '40-goal scorer' before he actually hits that, even if he's on pace to hit it this year. 30+ goal scorer would be accurate.

Now i`m worry. Because I don`t see reasonable package from Blues or Vegas or even Carolina. But Buffalo has assets to beat us if they want it

Why do our deals always play out for weeks in the media? Can we ever just quietly acquire anyone?

Because Tom is a leaker. Obviously we didn’t experience this under Lou. Though Kovalchuk deal leaked (both trade and contract) a little before the deal.

I love Zetterlund and it would suck to lose him, but IMO refusing to trade him for a +40 goal scorer is silly.
It's not about refusing, it's about what would you rather trade. For me Zetterlund vs Casey/Muk is pretty easy. I keep the former.

I absolutely want Timo, have for a very long time, but are you talking about him when saying "+40 goal scorer?"

This always happens. Projecting a guy to do something he has never done over many years in the league when you might be acquiring him.

Well I'm not sure it's so much that as it is the fact Tom doesn't threaten to drop other people into the river with chains on them if they do leak. Plus it's just harder to keep things under wraps now than it was pre-Internet when the beat writers used typewriters and you didn't see their columns till the next day.
