I will give Eklund credit for breaking the end of the lockout and that’s about it lol

What big deal has happened in recent years that came out of the blue? Stuff like that doesn't happen anymore. It's the nature of Twitter/Social media.
Fair point. Maybe it just feels that way because we've had the cap and assets to be in on everything big these past few years.

Tbh it feels that way cause we've never been so involved in those types of moves lol. Fitz is VERY proactive.

That trade was fun. I think Marek literally said to Minnesota "You're going to trade me to NJ and nowhere else"
tbh i think that’s kinda what’s going on with Meier. He’s not interested in signing anywhere but New Jersey, so San Jose isn’t letting anyone talk to him or his agent.

I wouldn’t blame him, there’s a gaping Timo-shaped hole in the lineup card every night. I think the holdup is that Grier doesn’t want Holtz. If he did, this would be easy.

the “team A” is back in it stuff I’d rumor mongering for clicks. If Dreger’s report is accurate that it could be done in the next 24 hours, San Jose is likely negotiating the finer points with one team with another being a fall back option.

CJ said he's heard Vegas is a place Meier wants to go. It's not NJ or bust.

I’m sure Buffalo would love timo but man, they have half a defense even when everybody is healthy.

They need help elsewhere.
Buffalo doesn't need worry about LD for the next decade -- they have Dahlin and Power. Samuelsson is the 3 LD for a long time after they overpaid him with a long-term deal. They currently have a pair of ok RD in Jokiharju and Lyubushkin, but will need help at the position going forward.

They are indeed a threat to NJ for Meier, far more than the purported threats of Carolina, Vegas or St. Louis. They could immediately trump a central offer of Holtz + 2023 1st with an offer of Quinn + higher 2023 1st.

I don't know if I would say they're desperate, they're like us in that our windows are just begun to open.
This is the first time in 11 years they have a shot to make the playoffs. They have the best offense in the league and are barely hanging on to the last wild card spot because they keep bleeding goals.

I would definitely say they are desperate, even before their captain and franchise D both went down. Getting to the playoffs would be huge for them.

Now that you put it that way, that's the first plausible explanation I've heard over why they wouldn't allow extension talks....leave some hope remaining for other teams and don't let it get out he'll only extend one spot cause that would drive down value Kane-style. I'm not sure how true that is though, or if we're even THE destination.
