Not necessarily today, but next year or the year after. I’m not sure where the holes will be but they’ll exist and need to be filled.

You don’t stay a sustainably competitive team by overpaying on deals simply because you can.
They are going to have their best player on a cheap deal for the next 7 season.

It's doable, but it will come at a cost to a lot of our depth. We will need to find cheap veteran stopgaps or young guys on ELCs to fill our bottom 6 and bottom pairing for a couple years. That might be worth it, but it's something to be aware of.
I don`t see any problem to pay 18-18.5 mil for Bratt and Meier over our expected 16-17.5 mil. This 1.5 mil will not change the picture, Severson will hit the market, Devils will find cheap 3rd pair replacement before Nemec is ready.

I don't love Timo at 9m. Smart teams are building teams based on having 4 even strength lines that can score + an elite PP1, not overloading their top 6.
How do you know what the line combos are going to be? There are also plenty of ways to win, not one. How many teams can throw out four ppg forwards???

Oh, I would still absolutely do it. But there is a tradeoff that our depth suffers. It's not a totally painless move.

I don't and I don't know where the cap is going with the RSN model collapsing. IDK I just don't see a long term extension at 9m+ as being good long term for the team's roster makeup, especially if they paid a premium for an extended Meier v. pure rental Meier.

I cannot stress this enough that The Fourth Period and anyone working for them has ZERO sources. Everything they say and do is made up.

It's just my opinion but I think Meier to the Devils gets done today. I also feel like there are situations where the GM will ultimately let the player decide where they want to go. I can picture Grier telling Meier's agent they have good deals from 2/3 teams where would he prefer to go...

In that case, I think the Devils have the advantage because of the Swiss contingent and the opportunity to come to a team that is just about to enter their cup window... (if Carolina is truly out).

But again, we've seen this before. Gaudreau was about to be a Devil until the rug was pulled.

Chris Johnston reported that he would want to sign w Vegas so idk how that would go for us.

Bratt and Meier at 9 mil are still decent value deals for what they actually bring. Stars are underpaid across the board. We'll just have to be smart about the depth moves. This is something a smart team with a smart staff should be able to manage.

That makes zero sense to me... but you know what? Horvat signing right away in Long Island made no sense to me either. Dude was about to get overpaid in his first crack at UFA and chose to sign his prime years away on a team with a quickly closing window.

In the end it's about the money with 99% of these guys. I just figure with the Swiss guys and the opportunity to spend the entirety of his deal playing with Jack or Nico... that's pretty attractive.
