It’s still a bad use of assets we could use to improve the team in other ways. Just because we can afford the price doesn’t make it worth doing.
In what ways? What are we looking to upgrade? Goalie maybe. Otherwise where are the holes?

I'd be more concerned about actually paying Meier, and then paying guys around that.

I think there is also the real possibility that Holtz has lost a lot of value.

If we have to give Meier 8x$9 on top of trading a huge package for him I'm kind of out to be honest. He's a great player, but he's not a superstar.
I’m almost there…but I can get over it in my head by pretending that we’re paying Jack the 12 million he deserves instead of 8 lol.

We are ok to spend 18 mil for both. Cap will be larger

fockin Skinner has 9mil per year

I think 9 is doable for both. I don't really know if the cap will be growing like people expected it to now with the regional network issues plaguing like half the league.

Not necessarily today, but next year or the year after. I’m not sure where the holes will be but they’ll exist and need to be filled.

You don’t stay a sustainably competitive team by overpaying on deals simply because you can.

Timo is totally worth 8x$9

I think he very well could be. But it's the contract plus all the other assets needed to get him in the first place that's more of a question mark for me.

And not just the assets themselves for what they could potentially turn into, but the opportunity cost of using then in a package for another trade. On top of still needing to pay Bratt, and I know we can afford both but it makes things tighter of course.

Just food for thought really and I'm sure Fitz has considered those scenarios as well

It's doable, but it will come at a cost to a lot of our depth. We will need to find cheap veteran stopgaps or young guys on ELCs to fill our bottom 6 and bottom pairing for a couple years. That might be worth it, but it's something to be aware of.

I mean let's say you get both Bratt and Meier at 9. That's a combined 33.25 for the 4. Averages out to a little over 8.3 That's more than fine with me.

If it's for a reasonable trade cost then I'm not going to worry myself much over depth pieces. I mean are we really going to be hand-wrining that Bratt and Meier at 9 rather than like 8.5?
