Someone educate me why not only is Benjamin Gaudreau on Team Canada but he is starting. WHY? He is not even the best goalie on the Sarnia Sting and his numbers are AWFUL! 3.62 GAA, .868 Save %! This team has an almost .600 win % and he's 9-8-3. I know OHL scoring is up, however, his .868 save % is not WJHC like.
Essentially he was on the U18 team that won gold and played well and for whatever reason they decided that mattered more then how he is actually playing this season.

The kid should take one for the team, say he's hurt, and let us bring in someone who can help.

Really don't know when handwaving any opinion, credible or otherwise, away just by calling it a "narrative" was popularized but I could do without it.

Going 1 on 4 over and over again is not good hockey. It's not the reason Canada lost tonight, and in fact he was their best skater but that mindset from the team had a lot to do with it.
I hate to say it but social media has made it almost impossible to have a decent conversation about hockey. Bedard had a handful of quality scoring chances but also turned the puck over in the D zone a handful of times and wasn’t moving pucks in transition much. But social media amplifies the scoring chances. Either way, he wasn’t bad by any means but Bedard can be alot better than he was last night. Wouldn’t classify that as a good game from him

Disagree. I thought Bedard played well. He was Canada's most dangerous player by far.

The anger over the Michigan is so stupid. It's not selfish and it's not showboating, it's a legitimate way to try and score, what don't people get about this?
If Bedard scores on one of those attempts and Canada wins nobody would have an issue with it. Just old school dummies looking to vent about something because canada lost.

Excellent point. Canadian goaltending has fallen so far in the last 10 year or so. The fall of the Quebec goaltending factory is a huge problem, and a lack of a national development program for goalies is seriously hindering Canada. Many European countries have NDP for goalies and you can see the results.

Canadians are looking at tandem of Jarry and Kuemper at the next major tournament. Yikes.

Even Gord Miller mentioned Milic's outstanding playoff performance last year, which if HC actually watched they would have made Milic the starter.
I do think that the lack of best on best hockey has obscured how much Canadian goaltending has fallen. Whatever Canada is doing to produce goaltenders is not good enough. Look at what other countries are doing an learn from it and look within at whatever areas are producing good results.

TBH, I disagree with everything you wrote.

1) It is a selfish play and showboating.
2) Even if Bedard scored, I'd have an issue with it - I always speak out against it.
3) Win or lose, I don't want Team Canada doing that crap - I want them playing hockey that wins.
How is it selfish or showboating? That opinion is backed by absolutely nothing other than your feelings about how you think hockey should be played. How is trying the Michigan not "playing hockey that wins?"

* Selfish : If your trying to scoop the puck, you're not looking to pass it to another player. You're trying a cutesy play.

* Showboating : self evident

Re : "That opinion is backed by absolutely nothing other than your feelings about how you think hockey should be played."

That's fair.

As per Cheryl Pounder, the lines will be changed up.

According to her, they could look something like:
- Guenther up with Wright and Othmann
- Bedard with Stankoven and Ostapchuk
- Fantilli may no longer be a top 6 forward

So sick of the "MICHIGAN", just play hockey for christ sake.

Globetrotters 2

A couple of other notes:

As some others have noted, Bedard was Canada's most dangerous player, but also he tried skating through the entire team too many times. This brought to me a memory of Jonathan Drouin trying to do the same at the 2014 tournament. Canada finished fourth at that tournament.

Czechia just defeated Austria 9-0. Does that make Canada look any better?

If Bedard a scores on that attempt and team wins no one has issue. Haaaa!
Then that could be said about every dumb, stupid, blind, or show boating move ever made.

If you are going to play like the Globetrotters, you better win. They didn't and I think it's for the best - the coach can put that garbage where it belongs.
Very healthy loss

Trying a "cutesy" play because they saw an opportunity to try something they thought had a high percentage of working in that situation. Again, you and all the other people calling it selfish or showboating are somehow assuming you know what was going inside the players heads when they tried that move.

No, that can't be said about every stupid play

Sure it could ......"hey coach, if I scored you wouldn't be yelling at me"

But by all means keep trying cause it worked once in peewee. 😃
And hey .... try that play where you go from behind your own net and deke all 5 players out and score top shelf. 😃
