Big and fast is better than small and fast. I'd have gone with a bit more skill in the Canadian forward group but some very good NHL teams have been succeeding in recent years with skill at the top and size in depth positions. Canada's defence looks well balanced. We'll see where things stand when the tournament rolls around. I'm angling to get a ticket to one of the preliminary round games myself, gold medal game to be determined.
Why limit yourself to a salary cap if there is no salary cap in u20

They didn't. They picked the top available scorers, as is normal. They picked the requisite defensive line players, as is necessary. They went for size in the last few depth spots rather than maximizing offensive skill, not my preference but it isn't outlandish. The defence is obviously constructed with a puck mover and then a more defensive guy to cover for him, which is just good strategy. There was no star goaltender available.

They could have gone for Mateychuk as a fourth puck mover and Savoie and Bolduc as two extra skill guys or something but it wouldn't change the team all that much having those guys in depth roles.

Shane Wright has been named captain ”C”

Assistants going to four players:
Gaucher, Del Mastro, Guenther, Stankoven

Everyone in instagram comments saying Wright doesn’t deserve the C because of attitude problems, lol. He captained a AAA team his whole life a year younger, wore an A in the OHL at 15, captained them two years later, and captained this same group of kids a year younger at the u18s in 2021. Apparently hockey Canada, who has closely watched Wright since he was 14 to deem he was worthy of exceptional status, hasn’t been able to pick up those same attitude problems as the commentators, lol.

He made a comment after being passed up on draft day and a little face so obviously he has attitude problems :sarcasm:

At this point, Canada's biggest problem will be a lack of adversity. They should cruise through round robin and quarter final cross over. Then, all of a sudden, it'll be a hungry and good team in front of them. That's about the only thing I can see stopping this years team.

Better to see how this team and the other teams actually look on the ice before any big assumptions. Goaltending is a big question mark, chemistry and tactics might not be there, other teams may be better than they look. Even if this team ends up being a fair bit better than any other team in the tournament in a single elimination setting it can lose in any number of ways.

Tomorrow evening should give our first small indications of what to expect.

Wright would be my pick for captain. He already successfully captained a bunch of these guys and I recall the team being big fans of his at the time, based on their interviews. Everybody that's viewing this through the lens of a fan and looking at the draft BS that happened has the incorrect perspective.
