Since it seems the Ducks will likely finish bottom 5 this year, I figured we should have a thread for discussing the implications of where the f***s will finish in the standings. As well as what factors could affect where they finish.

Tonight was interesting as all bottom 5 teams earned 2 points sans the Ducks and the Hawks.

Hey Folks,

Want to clear some of the air here, Tank talk is not an issue, please talk tank to your heart’s content here, totally understand how critical it is for that Future Potential Top pick. The issue is posting in the GDT, like you want the team to lose or make posts that you are angry they are winning or won the game, or bashing the team for not tanking.

The main reason is, to respect your fellow members. The GDT is about discussion of the game on a live basis and then post game discussion and opinions. A lot of fans are not rooting for the team to lose, and everyone has their views and opinions towards tanking, and may not want to discuss tanking in the GDT

If you guys have any concerns, feel free to PM me or another mod, and would be happy to explain more in detail.

Thanks!

Leo

It works the way the NHL wants it to work.

Lol no it doesn’t. The NHL draft lottery is incredibly transparent and you have to be willfully obtuse to think there’s any funny business going on.

On top of that, it’s just a flat out dumb conspiracy theory. Crosby I get, but you’re telling me the NHL rigged the lottery to send the next big thing after him to f***ing Edmonton?

I don’t believe in conspiracy theories, and I don’t think the league always does any manipulation, but giving Bedard toMontreal is good for the NHL.

Anaheim, Arizona, Columbus are non-factor teams in the NHL. But if the 1st goes to Montreal, I wouldn’t be surprised, that’s all.

Arizona giving it a good effort at home tonight, trail Minnesota 4-3 after 40 minutes. Let’s see if they can earn some standings points.

I mean of course you really shouldn’t be surprised. The most likely scenario is someone outside the top 4 getting bedard.

I just don’t understand why Toronto doesn’t have mcdavid and why Arizona doesn’t have Matthews if your theory holds up? Also why 8 of the last 12 1st overall picks went to Edmonton, New Jersey, and Buffalo?

I actually think it would be better for the NHL if top picks went to small franchises. The popular/O6 franchise will sell seats no matter what, but a lot of the other teams don't have 3-4 generations of a family as fans. Having the teams be good would draw more people to the arena. Bedard in Montreal would sell a lot more jerseys and be better short term, but making teams like Arizona relevant could draw more fans long term. Granted, a lot of that is on the GM but landing a franchise altering player would help a LOT

Pittsburgh’s rich history with Lemieux and now Crosby makes people forget that it’s actually a fairly small market, but that level of star made them into a big one. Considering Bettman’s entire legacy is growing the game in the US, he would probably be inclined to agree with you.

Arizona it can go both ways with the arena ordeal, Anaheim’s a very interesting one to ponder, but other than that yeah I think most US teams would be preferable here.

Yeah, it might be too late for Arizona now, but if they got AM or McDavid etc., their franchise may not be where it is now. Unfortunately, luck seems to run in bunches for certain franchises.

I wish that it was determined by regulations wins/losses. It would remove the penalty from us actually trying.

I know it won’t happen but I wish there was a locker room discussion like “okay we’ve proven we can do it, let’s take the blows and regroup next year” lol
