Feels like part of the unintended message here is it is better for a player to never support a cause or be vocal about one because they might come off as hypocritical if they make a career decision later on. OTOH, Salah, who I don't think has ever taken up for the same causes as Henderson (correct me if I'm wrong though) will get a free pass. That's also ignoring that Henderson goes over there with the same ethics and morals and knows he can't ever make a huge impact, but maybe he can influence a few minds through his example?
That's one way to look at it... wouldnt disagree with you. However that's not what I was intending to say. Basically LFC fans are mad at Hendo for taking Saudi money but at the same time are hoping Saudi offer Salah a stupid amount of money so they fund their rebuild. Why is it ok fro Liverpool to profit from Saudi money but not Hendo? Hell one poster said he hopes something bad happens to him. Which quite frankly is awful. To his credit though, he isnt one of the posters hoping Salah gets sold.

I wasn’t specific when I said I hope something bad happens to him. I did not say I hope he gets hurt because I’m not a dumbass. Hopefully he makes a catastrophic error for England and never plays for them again

Sorry but to be captain gay rights and then sell out gay people instantly the first chance he got, he can f*** straight off as far as I’m concerned. My brothers gay I deal with enough people saying stupid shit about gay people. I get a chance to say something bad about a fraud like him better believe I’m going to take it. Frankly yes I hope something bad happens to him and I hope he loses his precious England duty cause that’s supposedly his reason for doing this in the first place. And I especially hope he never wins anything again. To know that I supported a moron such as him is very disheartening. He is a Judas bastard quote me later if need be

Liverpool fans I can’t believe he went to Saudi…

Also Liverpool fans we should sell out best player to Saudi. To find a rebuild. Lol y’all are hypocrites. It’s ok to take their money but players leaving is a no no. Which is it?
Guess what different fans have different views. Everywhere I go to read a great majority of LFC supporters 85% maybe would rather keep Salah even if offered 1 billion pounds. So my view about selling Salah is in the clear minority.

As for Salah, he has never talked about it in public. Everything we hear from the team and manager is that he wants to stay.

I have never claimed Saudi were bad or trying to be morally superior to the saudi league. Why you single out different views as hypocrisy, you might read so many different take from so many people so please stop putting all in the same bucket. I personally see football as a business and not a moral compass. Some might see things differently but to me selling players to Saudi or PSG or Newcastle or City it is the samething, all dirty money. The sport of football is probably the most corrupt in the world with horrible people at leadership roles. So we are all hypocrites by watching it and contributing to this.

I have zero resent about ANY players taking money and going to saudi, again stop trying to put all fans in the same bucket it's quite stupid. I certainly I am not thinking footballer are model citizen, with value, with altruism, and superior moral views since the begining of profesionnal sport, the players have sold their talent to the highest bidder and they are more often than not asshole living in a superficial world.

I also try to not paint footballer based on their political views but their actual talent & achievements. For instance, Pele has been supportive of the dictatorship in brazil while he was playing. He was still a great player and one of the goat although to this day very few people know that he was a political puppet used by his country dictatorship.

He was crucified before the interview though.
Henderson brought all this negative attention by himself. He was a vocal supporter to LGBTQ rights when at LFC but still decided to join the Saudi league. It's all on him and with the interview he did certainly did not helped his cause by trying to justify it.

Also, I have never read anything bad regarding Firmino joining the Saudi league for instance. It's obvious he joined for money and nobody blame him for doing that. He also never claimed publicly, as far I am concerned, that he only joined the league because of their sporting project either.

Must be tough to not be owned by a billionaire
What are you insinuating?

If it was earlier in the window, for sure. But sell Salah now and how are you not at least showing an acceptance/willingness to punting on half of the season?
I guess LFC are also one injury away from punting the season.

Teams win championship not individuals. Are LFC better with Salah in the squad? 100%. Is LFC a very bad team without Salah on the team? No. They have a very good team although many would claim they are not CL caliber even with him on the team based on what I read in the media and from opposite fans.

I don't have a problem with being hypocritical. Though, I don't really think it's hypocritical.

If anything, I don't really have a problem with any player going for the bag of cash they get from the Saudis. Their playing career is finite, and at the end of the day, getting what they can before it's done is not a bad thing. I do have a problem from a competitive standpoint. If the league is below competitive (and that's being generous) and they can still do it at a top level, there is something sad in that, but I still understand it. My fault with players going there when they can still do it at the top level is more around the fact that it diminishes what I could see in a top league or the CL. That's selfish from a footballing viewer standpoint. I do have a problem with some who got praise, and clearly that's why they did it, for standing up for something they didn't have to, and now don't understand why they're getting criticism or aren't willing to accept that.

As for being happy to take the Saudi money, sure, it's tainted money, and I get that, but if it's going to keep my club running and playing well, I guess I'll survive. It's degrees of bad, but if that keeps the club in general able to compete with oil clubs, then so be it. If I'm running a convenience store, I can't really complain who buys my stuff, as long as they do.

You don’t do a transfer when our transfer window is shut. This is just basic common sense here. One player gets hurt then all of a sudden you don’t have forwards. Wise up

@Savant and @JeffreyLFC never get to cry again about Liverpool not trying to win.

He was crucified before the interview though.

He took a stand and turned his back on it. If you don't have the mental and moral fortitude to stick with it, don't take it. This is very simple and completely on him. He has no reason to cry or feel hurt. He did what he did and I have zero doubts that he was at least advised on how it would look.

Nothing about LFC not trying to win, all about lack of ambitions from the owners and always has been. If FSG invested massively for the past few years and the team had no apparent holes and never giving away the impressions that they lack funds every window. It would be fine with me to keep Salah and turn down any advance for £200M or whatever the Saudi are willing to pay.

But the reality is that FSG never gave me that impression that the money is ever available and that they back Klopp on the transfer market. Again even this summer, everything seemed off with the exception of the Caicedo bid who never materialised and they still did not even bother to fill all the needs. Less spend than other top premier league side and we are now relying on Matip/Gomez/Quansah to hold the fort at centerback because they lack defender and a decent right back.

As I said before, I truly believe that without the sale of Coutinho there are no Van Dijk and Alisson and no CL and premier league wins.

Without a Salah sale do FSG invest in improving the defense and add more attacking depth? I don't think so either. If they do invest massively while keeping Salah then I would 100% change tune.

Finally I would also not want to keep a player against his will and right now, it's only speculation about Salah. Every indication seem that he want to stay. If it's truly the case then f*** the Saudi but if Salah ask out, then good bye!

Nope

If Henderson had just said that they were offering him crazy money at this stage in his career and his earning window is closing, I wouldn't have given him any more s*** than I have any other player that's taken Saudi money. But I may just be a bad bi person :dunno:

100% this.

I have no problem with a player taking the money. Owners would do the same. Just don't try and take the money and act holier than thou while doing it.

As for FSG, Salah, and Liverpool, as it stands, they need to sell players like Salah to fund their potential winning. We can dislike it, but that's the business model that works, and what they're going to continue to do. So, yes, they'll talk tough, but at some point, they need to sell players to sustain their model.

I didn't say that  Just that I wouldn't give him any more shit than I have to any other player who has sold their soul.

Ha, true I guess.

At the end of the day, players have to live with whatever choice they make. I don't blame them for taking the money. We are talking generational changing amounts for some.

While I understand the appeal, I still think there comes a point where things other than money matter more and participating in the Saudi regime is one of those lines that's just not worth the money when you're already exceptionally well paid. No matter how crazy it gets.

So I will give shit to any player that took that money and doesn't use it to do a ton of good for others, but I don't think Henderson is worse than any of the other shameless whores.

If anything the hypocrisy on display probably detracts a bit from what the Saudi's were hoping to accomplish; so he might actually be less harmful than a player of similar stature who doesn't have Hendo's history with the community...but again, they're all indefensible so there aren't layers to it beyond their stature as footballers and the prestige their presence lends.

yeah, he could have easily said it. Ighalo said it and everyone was like wow, good job ighalo

The fact everyone knows they’ll be back is a big reason he isn’t leaving.
Yup. No reason to accept a deal right now. Maybe next year after replacements are in. Slept on it and changed my mind. I’m not taking any offers. Even if it’s 100m less, you make that money back by being in UCL

So let them do whatever long as we get our cut.

Some of the politics of Salah going or not are interesting. It would be a massive coup for the Saudis, but hurt Egypt and Salah who would be a political / cultural tool, which is something he has shunned.
No we should cry about it ruining the game because it’s not European.

I’d hope he doesn’t go and has more sense than the other footballers that left but as been stated on here these guys are no role models. It’s best. It to put them on a pedestal.

Not sure if I posted this yet, but Barca apparently have slashed the wage bill by 162 million this season. That’s on top of a net transfer income of about 100 million if Transfermarkt’s figures are correct.

Contributing to this… Joao Felix apparently. I’ve seen that there’s not only no loan fee for him, but COPE (not that I entirely trust them) are reporting that his wages for this season will be 400k… for the whole season.
