They overpaid on all of them, no doubt. Lavia is a lottery IMO, this isn't Camavinga we're talking about. Enzo does decent at looking decent while his play doesn't improve the team, and the Caicedo fee was hilariously high.Todd and his new regime think they’re the smartest dudes in the room. They might eventually pay off on some prospects they bought but some of it is going to be a loss
They bought 43 CBs, and none are half as good as the ones they lost (Christensen and Rüdiger), Disasi, Badiashile, etc... Even Fofana was a risky buy, and honestly, even when healthy, nowhere near good as the hype around him was.
I mean, if they really wanted young Frenchmen, Youssouf Fofana from Monaco is a better player than Lavia etc. at this point, and he's 24, not 40.
There's loads of young, talented players that are better than the ones Chelsea got that went for much smallers fees.
There're loads of proven veterans that could've been brought in for a fraction of the price and the club would've been much better of.
They had a decent core that was a very good Cup-side, which just needed polishing and smart 2-3 buys. Instead, they completely killed their CL-winning roster, sacked their manager and went into a spending spree over some talented, but mostly very young and unproven footballers.
My prediction still stands, they won't make top-5 this season, and honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if they don't make Europe at all.
