this has pretty much finished me off. It's just not worth it anymore. Can't keep putting all this emotion into something I have zero control over. It's clear, the Mets and Vikings just aren't meant to have nice things, high hopes or championships.
Am I missing something? Didn't the NHL let its players attend multiple Olympics during this century to much acclaim? That was a million times better than the WBC.
I agree with the NHL not to do so, though, when games are held in time zones that make viewership far too small to justify shutting down the league for three weeks.
Diaz' injury is exactly why I am not a fan of these international tournaments. If I was a Mets fan I'd be livid that my closer suffered an apparently serious knee injury while playing in a tournament instead of for the team. It's bad enough when something like this happens during spring training but at least then it happens while getting ready for the team's upcoming season. What is the purpose of this tournament???

To be fair, Olympic basketball games are played during the NBA’s offseason. That’s why NBS fans don’t complain. The WBC, Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics are played while the ramping up for or during the baseball and hockey seasons. That’s where the angst lies. There’s an argument to be made without degrading yourself by spewing hateful ageist tropes.Country over club. Always. We never throw a fit when NBA stars play in the Olympics anymore after the US got embarrassed by the Soviet Union, Brazil, and Yugoslavia in the 80s or by our own colony in Puerto Rico back in 2004 during the Athens games. Nor do we chide players like Pulisic or Donovan if they pick up a knock when playing in an international tournament in soccer and say that they should pull out of the World Cup and focus on their club careers instead. Why do we complain with baseball? Oh wait, that's right, because MLB fans have an elitist arrogance complex thinking that anyone that isn't in MLB sucks and is a lesser player as well as that all other baseball leagues are inferior. This is in spite of the fact that Team USA got its ass whooped by Mexico and could get embarassed again by Cuba or Japan. Teams largely constructed out of non MLB players. No one outside of Mets fans are concerned about Diaz's injury. This is just disingenuous whining from the boomers in baseball media like Olbermann who have to face the potential reality that the United States could become baseball's equivalent of England in soccer in international play. The WBC is here to stay and matters a lot more than the stupid ass All Star games they try to shove down our throat every year.

This video right here says everything about how winning for country at the World Baseball Classic is a hell of a lot more important to these players than it is to win a World Series for their pro club teams. They know what's more important.
Then go make the same money in your country or play for the team that gave you the contract. There is always risk for injury, you just increase it when play more and when you decide to do this, you put you and the team at risk for something.Country over club. Always. Yeah if it happened it would have happened to a Met I suppose. Always up against it.I’m angry and I’m not sure at who. Thank God I’m not a Jets and Isles fan or I would stop watching sports altogether. It is very hard being a Mets fan.
However it happened early and the Mets operate like the 90’s Mike illitch Red Wings - no Cap I’ll go get what I needYeah if it happened it would have happened to a Met I suppose. Always up against it.
I see your ignorance knows no bounds.Oh please. At this point, the word boomer is no different to the term old man at this point and doesn't just mean baby boomer. You can act like an old man when you're in your 20s. Same applies to boomer. There's certainly a lot of older, stuffy, arrogant, and dare I say clueless MLB fans that may or may not be baby boomers who believe this false narrative that MLB is the best league in the world and everything else is just AAAA or lesser and therefore there's no need to have international tournaments as they cry about not getting their pudding on time at the nursing home like one Keith Olbermann or any of the old popcorn farts who cover the Yankees and Mets like Mad Dog and Mike Francesca. That said, there are a bunch of new young idiots that sipped the Kool Aid that Olbermann sipped, believe this stupidity, and proceed to go to other places where normal baseball fans who like other leagues hang out and spew their idiocy and lack of knowledge to the point people like me have little to no patience for it anymore or the MLB elitists who say this dumb shit.

Do you think anyone cares that team USA lost to Mexico or anyone else? What a great pitching staff the Americans are carrying, 'eh? It's not even real baseball with the pitching limits.
As a Mets fan, thank God I have that lifelong memory of Puerto Rico beating the DR... One of my greatest moments ever.
Yes five people said the WBC. Case closed.

Wait a minute. Did I say any of this in my post??? No, I didn't. I don't like any of the pros playing in the Olympics and the injury factor is why. Yes I want the USA to win as much as anyone during the Olympics but the Olympics are only every two years. The professional seasons are every year & IMO they matter more to most American fans than the Olympics do because they are continuous. I cringe every time for example Bergy suits up for Canada. He is just one injury away from losing a season or at this stage of his life his career. Suppose this was an Olympic year & he got injured, there goes not only the Bruins' chances to win the Cup but also the end of a truly magical season in the making. I understand it is an honor to represent your country in the Olympics but as a fan, no, I'm not in favor of it.
"WAAAAAAH WAAAAAH WAH! BUT WHAT ABOUT MY TEAM?!? WAAAH! NEW YORK'S SHITHOLE SECOND RATE TEAM WON'T HAVE A SHOT TO GAG AWAY ANOTHER PLAYOFF RUN! WAAAAAAAAH!"
That's all well and fine, but I don't know if you know this or not probably because the most foreign place you've visited was the Brazilian steakhouse on the corner, but the world doesn't revolve around America. There are people who don't have an MLB team in their hometown. Shocking I know. So the most important thing to them and their country is the World Baseball Classic. To the Cubans, Venezuelans, Dominicans, and Puerto Rican fans among others this is their Super Bowl. People in Taiwan, where I am currently working at right now, were ecstatic about the World Baseball Classic and sold out every game they played. And the games they didn't play were drawing over 20,000+.
What is your f***ing problem that you think it's okay to say shit like this?
