f*** Brasier. Nothing is more annoying than that pud sucking more suck than suck could suck here and going to LAD and being good. Just f*** him and his stupid neck.

Anyways, hoping Jacques can get out of this. Can’t say I’m loving Cora’s choice here. Dudes flown cross country 3 times now in like a week lmao.

Pivetta with an absolute gem.

A Bloom pitching acquisition just pitched great. Did you miss it?

need a #2 at least

Cora set Jacques up to fail. Dude’s been flying back and forth cross country and let’s be real, he isn’t a late inning reliever. Schreiber? Martin? Bernardino?

Team needs wins.

I’m over Cora. I cannot wait for them to can him. Give Bloom his own guy. This dude blows.

Cora is the reason we are in this. have you seen the prospects progression. he contributed

I hope we trade Verdugo and move Pivetta today, since his value is at an all time high. Stock the system with young arms that are in AA or AAA now and are a year or two away.
Call up Rafaela, play him everyday and bat him 7th.
Trade Dalbec and get what you can for him.

*Yay*

At some point in time you can't keep punting on seasons when you are sorta in the hunt. My problem is this same scenario could unfold next year and people on here would still have a pants tent over selling and stocking the farm system. There needs to be pressure to win actual big league baseball games. You don't get points for having a good system and a tidy balance sheet. Win!

Who in the hell wants Bobby Dalbec? The Savannah Bananas?

As for Verdugo he really is Benintendi all over again. Chaim had no use for Benintendi and will absolutely trade Verdugo at some point.

Casas is only hitting .188 against lefties but ya I don't need to see Rob Refsnyder come to the plate. But the spreadsheet probably said that was the right call.

Best OBP on the team (.390).

Yes, the sooner the better. The value of Verdugo will never be higher than it currently is. I'd probably not do it if their odds of making the playoffs were higher unless some GM overpaid dramatically, but in this case Bloom should take the best offer available.
It doesn't seem like he wants him around long term. The question is whether he moves him now or in the off-season.

Pivetta should be moved as well. He seems like the odd man out. He's a potential trade target for Cincinnati. Not too costly (in terms of real money and prospects) and is not a pure rental.

This deadline reminds me of last years. Fans were to reluctant to trade as well (just a few games out of the WC-spot). They should go by the odds, not by what's popular.

Let me ask you then, at what point will you not accept selling while still being in the hunt? Next year? People have to have a breaking point for middling baseball around here.

Difficult question as I can see where the other side is coming from as well.

I am going by the odds. If they are in the 25-30% range (and I think that's favorable) that's too low for me to sacrifice future assets. Some may come to a different conclusion, but I don't think it's worth it. If it was worth it, I'd want them to buy. I was fine with Bloom adding Schwarber two years ago, because they were in a better situation back then IIRC.

I understand that a team like the Angels going for it, but they are in a vastly different situation. It's most likely their last chance before a proper rebuild has to be initiated.

It's not the year to be going for it. Even if they were to make the playoffs it would be a huge uphill battle from that point on. 3 game road series just to get to play the best AL-team without HFA.

The Indians (.5 GB of the division - better spot than the Red Sox) and Mariners (4.5 GB as of yesterday) are selling as well. They obviously don't like their chances either.

Hell baby
If they do anything I see a mix. Sell off some short term pieces, acquire some pieces that will help next season. Maybe plug in the current hole in the backend of the rotation so the relievers don’t die

I look at this way, same goes for any sports franchise.
There is no way the Bosox win the World Series this year. I give them a less than 50% chance of getting a wild card spot, so why not sell and get younger / players with some potential?
Pitching and defense wins you a championship.
We are at least 2 years away from being a legit contender for post season play.

And this is the approach that will 100% deserve criticism.

You might want to check the Red Sox record against good teams this year. With the injured guys they have potentially coming back I don't think it's fair to say a couple trade acquisitions couldn't turn this team into a true contender. You can't take an approach that there is no shot they win the WS. If you are a playoff contending team you have a chance. At least one that has shown it can beat good competition.
