The constant rumors of selling off pieces is kinda annoying to me. Kike I totally get. Was not really adding anything.

Long term I have no issue moving on from Verdugo. He's not gonna get any better than he is. Doesn't have a lot of power. But let's just say they end up trading Verdugo, Paxton, Duvall, Pivetta or some combination. I don't know how that could sit well with CDJ who called the Red Sox a wagon or anyone else that thinks this team could make a run.
It really wouldn't sit well with anyone. Fans have started to pay attention again, they're in the mix for the playoffs, and you decide to sell? Just pure stupidity on their part.

Also if you're actually going to sell, why come out and essentially say you're holding onto Turner for next season? He'd get them a nice haul.

Same goes for Martin, Jansen, etc.

At this point if you're selling, you might as well test it down entirely and commit to a full rebuild.

Yes because the Angels are trading for all these players just to sell Ohtani lmaooooooo
He's still a free agent after the season. Angels can do whatever they want, I doubt he re-signs there.

Verdugo is important to the Sox because he knows the rf at fenway, I'd keep him just because of that, id rather him slump now at the bat and come alive when others slump.

Commit to a direction no matter which way you go. It sounds like they want to do a limited sell. That's not what I would do, but okay, if you are going to be a bear be a Grizzly. Do not go out and get Tommy Pham as filler again, please.

If the Angels went out and acquired all these guys just to turn around and deal their best player while trying to make a run, that’s hilarious. I just don’t see it being realistic.

so let your best asset walk for nothing with the chance an unachieving maybe wild card team can try to sneak in? I would love to get Ohtani,, makes things so intereseing. I've had enough crumbs of 4th place and half measures GMing . This would be a Manny like signing.

I am confident with Cedanne Rafaela's speed and athletic ability that he could play RF for us right now and not miss AV defense.
If we trade AV, Duvall can play RF for us as well.
Would rather trade AV vs letting him walk for free at the end of the year.

No I'm saying it won't matter, there isn't a chance he re-signs there despite them loading up here

Yeah they can't do the shit they did last year again, served no purpose.

Committing to a direction, either way, is necessary. Either sell everything that isn't a young part, or long term solution, or buy and try to make a run.

Interesting that Shaughnessy was on Sports Sunday yesterday continuing his sell agenda. Hmm it's almost like he has been fed this from somewhere or someone...I wonder who it could be. If they take this wishy washy approach like they did last year where they sorta sell but sorta not I think that is entirely the wrong approach. Either you have confidence in your job security, you don't think this team is a contender and you sell off veterans or you believe in the idea that if you make the playoffs you can win it--then you add. Like I said before I don't need a huge addition in that scenario, but improve the team.

I'm not sure Rafaela's ready. He's only had about 100 ABs in Worcester, and while he's doing well, he's still basically swinging at everything.

And I still think his ultimate MLB role will be as a Super Utility player who plays about six different positions and gets ~400 ABs per year.

Am I crazy for not wanting them to do anything big in either direction, selling or buying? This team is good enough to compete for a playoff spot this year and clearly in a good spot to spend this off-season so they're better going forward.

I mean, if they can make a move for a great young player they'll control for awhile, yes, obviously, but just in terms of improving the team for the next two months? I'm fine, but I also want to enjoy baseball for the next two months, which means not selling either.

I don't know, maybe I'm getting soft in my old age, but I'd like to have some fun this season, and games that matter in August and September is fun.

I guess I would consider doing nothing at all a direction. So while I think it would be nice to add a piece or two if they do nothing and keep the vets and don't sell off guys that are helping this team this year I'd be fine with that too. Really, the only scenario that will annoy me is the buying and selling dance like we saw last year.

Yeah, even a small move would be fine with me if it shores up the bullpen or gives Cora some versatility on the bench. But I don't need them trading Paxton or Verdugo anymore than I need them trading a top prospect for a rental.

I viewed this as a transition year and they're still playing meaningful baseball on July 31st, so I'm good. I know not everyone feels that way and that's totally fair. I mean, I won't feel this way about next season.

if they do little at the deadline which won't help them down the stretch, why let Verdugo walk with no assets gained

The milk is now spoiled with Verdugo. He knows he's been mentioned in trade talks. He probably weighs external opportunities in the offseason. I don't feel as though he's been a difference maker since joining the Red Sox as he has many peaks and valleys. Also, while he is more than competent in right field, he's no Dwight Evans. Oh, and for a cost controlled starting pitcher, I'll drive him to the airport.

Who is giving up a cost controlled SP for an arb year of 10 mil+ and 2 more months of Verdugo?

Yeah, I don’t know why it’s not clicking for you with this one.

The. Angels. Just. Acquired. Players. To. Make. A. Run.

They. Are. Not. Trading. Their. Best. Player. After. Doing. That.

I'd think Bloom would have to do something, if he chokes down the stretch I think he's gone offseason and Sox owners go to a different GM. At some point there needs to be expectations and accountability.

If he chokes down the stretch? You mean if the team chokes down the stretch.

Bloom will do something + injured players coming back. I know some fans hate injured players coming back and view it as some cop out but when the players are Story, Sale, Houck, Whitlock — that’s significant upgrades you haven’t been playing with.

On Bloom: he isn’t going anywhere. I just don’t see it happening. I know some are trying to will it into existence but I’d say he’s safe.

Fenway is still full, there’s interest in the team due to this great July and they’re in playoff race.

To keep things accurate. Attendance is down from last year.
