Seems like everytime they're within reach of catching the other teams, the 'other teams' lose and so do they, tonight was different but they failed over the weekend.

When I get the sense that the organization isn't making progress towards building a sustainable winner.

Where's the sustainable winning? Where do you see sustainable success in these moves that the Red Sox have done? Nothing tells me that there is anything Bloom is doing other than being sustainably at the bottom of the league, under the luxury tax, and having a sustainable decrease year on year in fan interest. This team took one of the most beloved teams in Boston and made their fans reviled by them year on year since 2011. At this point the Red Sox, just like Roush Racing and soon to be Liverpool FC once John Henry gets his hands on an NFL team, are just a number line in a portfolio spreadsheet. Say what you want about the crazy spending of Steve Cohen and how he made dumb moves as well as meddled in the team's decision making, but at least he's invested. When was the last time you saw ANYONE in Fenway Sports Group invested in this team?

They can use the fuel and win going forward. Last year's team sulked when Chaim did nothing, this year? The team did none of that. Kenley is using it as fire and they are fine with being the underdogs.

I think they go on a tear here, imo

Just noticed the Orioles are in 29th in terms of payroll(oakland), 1/3 of the Sox, damn.

Because they have a young dynamic core of players that they will soon need to pay. The Orioles aren't gonna be in the World Series this year. One to two years time? Most likely, but certainly not now.

This team isn't an underdog. They are a major market ball club that has underachieved because the GM doesn't invest in good players and wants to take all the credit for when they win. I don't watch baseball to watch the GM be a spotlight hogging narcissist. I come to watch the stars and this team only has two of them. Devers and Yoshida.

Unfortunately, the FO doesn't care. So if the players on the team feel like they're underdogs because their GM didn't do nothing? I'm running with the underdog narrative. Its better than the players pouting like Xander did last year.

Xander had every right to be angry. His boss was trying to take credit for his play and undercut him on wages. Now look at him in San Diego. He's near the top 5 in WAR on a team that's in a hotly contested division for a team that's really only being let down by its bullpen. Meanwhile the Red Sox are playing hot potato at shortstop until Mayer is theoretically ready to play and have had a cavalcade of crap come down the pike every night while barely holding on to a wild card spot.

Honestly I think the team sees it more as a vote of confidence in the roster and what they have coming back than they do a Major League “we’re doing this to spite the owner!” deal. That’s what Paxton’s quote seemed to reflect. I think they’re stoked they didn’t move key clubhouse guys like Verdugo and Duvall and held onto their current ace. The underdog stuff from Kenley seems more directed at media and fans than anything else. I’d wager he actually kinda likes the dudes cutting him a $16 mill annual check as a reliever. They (the players) are not us lol

They’ve consistently been among the top 2 or 3 teams in the league at beating other good baseball teams. Don’t think they don’t know that. They do. They just need to clean it up and focus more against the scrubs. Story is back soon. Sale is back soon. Whitlock and Houck are coming. Every other position is filled.

3 dynamic young cornerstones are emerging all at once and if you’re a Sox fan who can’t get excited by that then I’ll go out on a limb and say you simply aren’t a Sox fan, you’re just a miserable person who will never be happy.

They have a playoff rotation that gives them a chance against anybody and they have a lineup that can hit. They just need to go on a run where they don’t play little league level defense. Watching them throw it around tonight before Winck slammed the door made me have an aneurysm

And honest question:

Do you watch the games? The only stars that you "come to watch" are the coldest players on the team at the moment.

No they don't suck. You know why? Because Brayan Bello and Triston Casas were player moves made by Dave Dombrowski, not Chaim Bloom. Chaim Bloom gets no credit for either of those players. Dombrowski picked up those players, he gets the credit. So I thank Dave Dombrowski for getting those players when he did. He left the Red Sox with some real talent in the minors before he got unceremoniously fired for doing his job in building a top 5 baseball team.

And honest question:

Do you watch the games? The only stars that you "come to watch" are the coldest players on the team at the moment.

Do you believe the Red Sox are a well ran organization at the moment: yes or no?

Was Duran also a Dombrowski pick They? Anyway, yes, young talent is exciting. But it's also only one component of roster building.

There is no evidence to suggest they can stop the bad defense/baserunning. It's just who they are.

The Red Sox are seven games over .500 and 1.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

The Padres are two games under .500 and 5 games out of a Wild Card spot.

Bogaerts is on pace for his lowest full-season WAR since 2017. He'll turn 31 at the end of this season, and the Padres still owe him $255 million.

Before these last 3 games it was mostly a luck thing- he was hitting the ball hard and getting BABIP’d to death. Now he seems like he’s in a slump.

Mike I take a back seat to you and a handful of others here and enjoy your posts

Bogearts has seemed to have a chronic wrist problem and I was all for a 5 year deal and in hindsight I’m not sure I’d do that now - primarily because if that - I’d assume he would become Turner ish down line

Today if you could have signed him 5 at 27 per would you ? Likely eliminated a Turner signing

The Red Sox have the 9th toughest remaining schedule with half of their pitching core on the IR hoping that one of them in a rehab start will make the difference.

The Padres have the 13th toughest remaining schedule and are likely to get Michael Wacha back whose been a decent arm in their rotation.

All the options at shortstop the Red Sox have trotted out at shortstop have a worse WAR, BA, OBP, OPS, OPS+, and fielding metrics than Xander Bogaerts COMBINED, never mind individually.

Thanks

We sat off the plate a bit behind home plate last Wednesday and I was impressed with Rafaela appearing to have some knowledge of the zone

If this guy even hits 260 he’s going to be a plus player

However he may be even better

Assuming he’s the real deal - where you play him?

RF or CF

Gotta think he’s got Duvall spot next season

2024
Yoshida- LF
Duran CF
Verdugo RF
Refsnyder against lefties
Rafaela CF/RF

Kinda fun and two top OF prospects coming fast

Very excited about this area of the team

Thank you Sam Kennedy. It's gonna be awesome when Chris Sale comes back.

It's almost like you never really know with prospects. Don't get me wrong, not calling Mayer a bust. But everyone just had him penciled in for a smooth transition to every level of ball and that he would be here in no time. It just doesn't work that way with prospects. Some top picks flame out. Some low round picks are studs.
