It is funny. The majority of them will finish in a beer league. My son who played M18 D2 last year started CEGEP this year and quit hockey. I think we are all passionate. I have to admit though I love to see and analyse young prospects. Even in the NHL they are wrong. We are all specialists and I love it, I am pasionated too. Best way to see for that age group, live barn, etc... Can't wait to the draft and I am really missing my son playing hockey but his future is bright at Brébeuf.

Definitely the favorite to go #1 - this definitely changes things however.

Teams now have to do their due diligence- hopefully he’s not just stating this to get to his preferred destination.
We never know what happen in next 7 months.

Let us see it is strategy or something else

Post MONCTONION Review top prospects out of this Draft class.
A Class: Wheeler,Chander,Conrad,Sim,Colette,Sturgeon
B Class: Boudro,Roop,Foley,Keiver,shaw
C Class: pilling, Legere, rhyno,rushton, Weber,carter arnold
Top 3 preformers
1: Zachary Wheeler- In my opinion this kid is something special he is a great centre and has a wicked shot with great size i see him in the top 10 of the draft.
2: Chandler- is an amazing centre with the best draws as a lefty i have seen for the 07 class. This guy is a shifty forward with great size good shot and great play making. See him going in the first round probably middle pack
3. Noah Collete- Noah is a very accomplished d man yet he doesn’t have the size he is compared to cale makar and adam fox he is a very good dman

Did anyone take in any of the U16AAA games at the Monctonian? Appreciating this group is likely not nearly as heavily scouted, or monitored, were there any hidden gems or notable surprises to be found within these teams/players?

There was a player that really stood out to me, but it was when he was playing with the U18s as an affiliate with the Steele Subaru. He is an 06 but looked better than some most Q drafted defensemen his age and I think he'll get a chance to be on the CSR list as an overager playing in U16 which is crazy. Wyatt Countway is that guy. Big defenseman with good mobility and can move the puck well. Was impressive.

Matthew MacLean is 06 player. He played Charlottetown few games and signed with Summerside Jr A team. He missed playing in his draft year. He may got attention this year.

On Tuesday, November 29th, HockeyProspect.com released our initial Top 30 Atlantic Player Rankings list for the 2023 QMJHL Draft. These rankings include 30 players from the Maritimes who are eligible for the 2023 QMJHL Draft, coming from all areas of Atlantic Canada.

Featured on this list are 13 players evolving in the NSU18MHL, 8 players evolving in the NBPEIMU18HL, 3 players evolving in Canadian prep schools and 6 players evolving in the USA.

At the top of the list is Zachary Wheeler, who played as an underage forward with the Moncton Flyers last year and won the Telus Cup. He is what you would call a complete package at center with good size and incredible hockey sense. Wheeler currently leads the NBPEIMU18HL in points and plays a strong two-way game that relies on his ability to anticipate plays, win puck battles and execute plays accurately and quickly. Wheeler has a high skill level, high-end vision and an accurate shot.

Coming in second place is left-hand shot Owen Conrad, currently playing for the Weeks Major in the NSU18MHL. Conrad has been gifted with tools that very few defenseman at that age possess. 6’2” defenseman who skate like the wind, have skills and can play a physical game are a rare breed and teams always line up to find that type of minute-eating two-way defensemen.

The third player on our list is Lane Sim, also of the Weeks Major in the NSU18MHL, a small but very dynamic offensive center who is shifty and fast and puts defenders on their heels by pushing the pace constantly. He is very skilled, highly competitive and tries to generate offense every time he steps on the ice. Sim clearly has the potential to be a top point producer at the QMJHL level.

Other players featured in the top five are Brady Peddle from Bishop Kearney Selects and Liam Kilfoil from the Buffalo Regals. Peddle is a good size two-way defenseman who plays a simple but effective game on 200 feet. He is hard to play against with his high-end skating, his solid defensive stick and his physical game. Peddle distributes the puck well and plays a smart game with low risk. Liam Kilfoil is a two-way center with great skating ability who likes to carry the puck up ice and is a threat both as a shooter and a playmaker. Both these players have the potential to become key cogs on a future contending QMJHL team.

Great to see NL player Peddigrew getting traction. Hopefully more players from NL as the list expands in the coming months.

There are a number of good players in NL that haven’t had much exposure and there isn’t much separation between the top 4-5 D or 5-6 forwards.

Michael Pilgrim - D
Jack Bartlett - D
Patrick Lambe - D
Elliott Wright - F
Jabez Seymour - F
Carter Bromley - F

Truthfully, this will be the deepest group to come out of NL in a long time.
These are names that should be included in your list above as there isn’t much gap between any of them.
The NL 07s may not be high end but they are prob the deepest group from the province in a few years.

Without Morin - the draft is now wide open in my opinion.

I can’t pinpoint a prospect that is #1 - it can change from week to week.

Here would be my top-10 as of now.

1: Caleb Desnoryes
2: Liam Kilifoil
3: Owen Conrad
4: Lane Sim
5: Alex Huang
6: Phillips Veilleux
7: Zachary Wheeler
8: Louis-Alex Trembley
9: Shawn Carrier
10: Nathan Quinn

I don't think Morin was viewed as the first overall for QMJHL teams to begin with, at least not for any of the ones I talk to. I don't think he did that well last year in Quebec and I know many scouts who agree. Of course, he's going to look good playing in U15 Prep however.

I think Desnoyers is currently separating himself from the pack actually.

That’s something I never thought of much - he does play on a very good Little Caesars team, perhaps the numbers are a bit inflated. But he has looked good in my 2 viewings of the Little Ceaders this year.

Here is what I wrote about Morin:

“Big body, fantastic puck skills that he uses to great effect against defenders his age.

Skating could use some work, not The fastest player but it gets him where he needs to go.

Very good vision in the offensive zone - at times tries to force passes, an attribute I find is quite prevalent at this age group

scored a goal off of a rebound shot from Jardine, showed strong body positioning boxing out the defender from the puck. ”

All in all in my viewings he reminds me a bit of a Dylan Strome.

Maybe I’m off in my assessments - would love to hear your thoughts.

Although this may change at any time before the draft...
Here's my top 10 at this point:

1. Caleb Desnoyers
2. Liam Kilifoil
3. Owen Conrad
4. Lane Sim
5. Shawn Carrier
6. Philippe Veilleux
7. Alex Huang
8. Zachary Wheeler
9. Nathan Quinn
10. Louis-Alex Tremblay

Caleb Desnoyers stands out for his intelligence and hockey sense... this is why I personally think he will go first!
What do you think?

Nothing against your report. Morin has all the tools to be a very good junior and has some pro upside with his size and skill.

My point is more that... other Q prospects playing U15 in the states tore it up big time last year. Shields had 114 points, Boisvert had 94, even Tyler Wood had 79 in 53 games playing 15U AAA in the states. It's not that difficult to produce against your own age group only when you're a decent prospect. When Morin was in Quebec, he didn't dominate in U18, he had a weak year compared to most ''underage'' players we have seen in that caliber the last 6-7 years. When he was at the Team Quebec camps, he did not look like the top guy or dominate.

My point is more... from a Quebec scout point of view, Zachary Morin seems to be less hyped than he is by people outside of Quebec. I've seen him higher on some early NHL Draft lists than he is likely to be on most QMJHL teams' Q draft lists which is not really normal.
