If Bertuzzi and his agent misjudged his market value, I wonder if they circle around back to the Bruins? I still think it could happen and that the B's will move Forbort or Gryz and possibly Ullmark.
He had a pretty good situation running with pasta and zacha hockey wise, but I'm sure that pales in comparison to setting up his family with max and term. Just hope it's not Florida or Toronto

Trading Hall and not getting Bert makes you wonder what up
What up is that they had no cap space before they traded Hall and they still had next to no cap space after trading him and essentially had to fill multiple roster spots with players making at or very close to the league minimum.

See image below:

The boat (or what’s left of it after being consumed by the shark) represents the Bruins’ roster.

Donny wont go with zacha and Coyle as 1 and 2 . Take that to the bank.

I completely agree with you on this.

Sweeney needs to focus on bringing in a top 6 center, not a winger like Bertuzzi.

I swear with some, it’s like when the hottest girl in school tells you there’s no chance of it ever happening. Not now, not in a million years, not ever. And yet, somehow they’re magically going to open up $6m more in cap space and Bertuzzi will fall into their laps like manna from Heaven.

It's quite possible that Bert never got the offer in free agency that the Bruins were offering and that his agent could literally circle back.

At that point, the Bruins could say, well there is no way we can do that now, we've done most of our shopping. At that point, the Bruins could say let's do one year at X amount of dollars and revisit it next year when there's more money and cap space around the league.

Then the Bruins could move Frederic to St Louis and tell the Blues let's do a sign and trade, what are you comfortable paying him and, oh by the way, we ae attaching Forbort to the deal.

If you take a look at CapFriendly, there are maybe 8 teams that could add Bert today at $6 million and still fill out their roster.

Gotta move someone else out or walk away from an RFA or too in that scenario, right?

Moving a goalie would seem to be the logical choice if that’s the play.

Term is bullshit. The cap will go up by 6 years from now and even if he's washed up just trade a 2031 draft pick to move him. Letting a good player walk over that is just foolish.

You don't have to walk away from an RFA no, you can trade them. Making the cap work IF they want to do it is possible. I'm not sure they want too at this point.

My understanding is they offered 3 years versus Bert wanting 6. That's a large gap and one not easily closed. But if Bert wants to gamble on himself on a one year deal... I doubt he wants too.

Merkulov proved last year that he can score at the AHL level. 67 games, 24 goals, 55 points. Does he need one more year? Last listed at 5'11" 181. Certainly a good prospect.
From what I have heard here he is ready....maybe more time to get bigger/stronger ? but skill wise and awareness wise I think he is ready
