Player A
25 years old, 198 games, 29 goals, 25 assists

Player B
24 years old, 189 games, 28 goals, 27 assists

One just signed a 775k contract, the other is up for arbitration

Personally, I think if Frederic prices himself out they should look to sign Colin White on the cheap and move Freddy, maybe someone else will overvalue him on the trade market.

Frederic also threw 30 less hits last year than Boqvist has his entire career. I'm with you on moving on if he prices himself out, but points aren't the entire picture.

Frederic was also a borderline elite 5v5 defender last season, which is a big reason why Hall and Coyle were so much better with him then they were without him.

If Freddy goes, they need some size in the top 9 and it’s not even a debate. The top 9 forward group is as soft as baby shit, and once again we will get trucked in the playoffs.

Sweeney's playing 4D chess making some quick cheap contracts to use at Frederic's arbitration hearing.

... Or maybe it's 5D chess and he's just going to use it as a threat to sign him earlier at a lower cost to use that one on his next comparable hearing.

Think if they were looking to replace him on the roster we would have seen Sweeney give this contract to Sundqvist not Boqvist.

I don’t have much faith in them doing anything to improve on the lack of size & snarl in the top 9. Going to be easy to play against.

This is going to make me sound bad, but I’d rather they kind of gear down on the European players to fill that void.

What do you feel was his most borderline elite defensive play last season?

I'm only half taking the piss here, as I can't really think of any myself.

I didn't see a lot of him this last year, but I really liked him the year before.

Caveats: he's listed at C, but is not IMO a fit there. Way too light and awful at the dot. He's also... Really light. And quite (I want to say) perimeter.

BUT, he's got some ability. He's young yet. And what stood out to me was his quick and accurate decision-making. A right place, right time kind of player who often lined up with others who failed to take advantage. Victim of a numbers game last season and not necessarily a indictment on his skill or progress as a pro.

He gives Lysell an opportunity to stick in the AHL and learn to dominate there before moving him up.

And there's a chance he doesn't make the Bruins team too. But this is precisely the kind of "interesting" player I wanted the Bruins to focus on acquiring this offseason. Cheap. Young. Skilled upside. And absolutely no guarantees.

Love it.
I agree. Seems like a better option then Comtois who might have baggage and injuries and probably Zadina too. I don’t know enough to lay money down but I love extending the bottom 6 depth and competition for position.

I’d still love to see Merkulov/Lauko/Steen and others tear spots away from these guys in camp, but make them earn it. May the best man play and let the competition continue all season long.

Love the accumulation of depth...Boqvist has good skill. He is definitely a third line type of player. He forechecks hard and is FAST, which a lot of us have been preaching.

I don't think this means Frederic is out.

I think this is competition for Greer, Lauko and the prospects fighting.

Getting Boqvist is a bottom 6 add that means something else has happened or will be

Hmmm
Or we have to pass a guy through waivers and pay an NHL rate in Providence worst case. We have tons of flexibility of guys around 1 mil who can be sent down without a residual impact on the cap. Seems like the Bruins are making a conscientious effort to add depth and competition. This particular signing could backfill for all those missing mid round backs.

I could be wrong. But I don’t see the ripple impacting Frederic.

Sounds like Boqvist and Lauko both play a fast forechecking game, could be a good line with Geekie.

Marchand-Zacha-Pastrnak
JVR-Coyle-DeBrusk
Lauko-Geekie-Boqvist
Lucic-Brown-Frederic

If Bergeron comes back he slots in at C and Brown comes out
That second line makes me want to throw up. Bruins will need to rely on D and goaltending in major ways for any playoff hopes. Also any injury to center would just be it. Not that CC has any business in any top six in the league.

Bet you see Geekie get looks, especially if Coyle isn't cutting it. Like the Coyle/Haula situation after Krejci left.
