White was there because he lost a race to a spot, and took a path to a position he had no right to. If the NHL allows goals caused by incidental contact in that situation, they incentivize responding to boxouts at the crease by sliding inside the boxout.Goal should have stood with replay.....sorry...he made an effort to stop and was pushed back, goalie also initiated contact.....no matter, Panthers got the win, just took longer.
This is like people asking why fouls get called in basketball when both players seem to initiate contact (usually in rebounding situations): one has a right to their position, other does not. If you don't call loose ball fouls on players going over or hitting the backs of boxing out players, you turn rebounding into a dangerous full-contact free-for-all.
