No games tonight? What in the hell am I supposed to do?
1) Pick up that Bailey Forever t-shirt on EBay
2) Watch Mystery Alaska and pray for Bailey Pruitt
3) Re-write the lyrics of any song to include "HEY, Josh Bailey"

And try not to catch the Bo Jackson hiccups

Speed and skill is a passing fad?

If you wait long enough grind it out hockey will come back again. So will you avocado kitchen appliances and the wood paneling in your finished basement.
Want to buy my 8-track player?
Or my Leisure suits with the platform shows and the Qiana shirt?

He’s not going to waive his NTC.

I have a Peter Lugers bet with multiple friends that Tavares will be chased away from Toronto by end of this decade. They already started on him, I give it another 2 more years before it gets very obvious they want him gone and he will gladly waive it.

End of this decade? 7 more years? His contact is up in 2 years. Of course they’ll want him gone.

As for future expansion, I just don't see QC ever getting a team. I just don't think there's enough money there and the french language TV money is too small now to split with Montreal.

Well, I'm not sure what Montreal would say about it, although there was already a team there and it was a wonderful little rivalry. From what I've heard, QBCity folks have not automatically turned their fandom to Montreal just because they don't have an NHL team anymore. Would we become Rangers fans if our Islanders were to move?

This said, here are the attendance numbers for the four most recent QMJHL playoff games for the Quebec Remparts:
18259
18259
17911
17416

I'm thinking that has NHL execs gettin' real giddy with thoughts, especially knowing that numbers like that are prolly coming every time Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Boston would be in the building, not to mention Colorado.

And do we need to review the teams in the league that are currently averaging 14,000 or less during the regular season?

But I am aware that there are issues with business sustainability as well as the problem of adding yet another address in the east.

I think Houston would be the next logical place for sure. Huge TV market and an arena in place.

This is what everyone is tweeting just now. It's the hot thought in light of yesterday's ongoings in Arizona and with Dallas' success this year.

That said, Bettman was asked about expansion on Bob McCown's podcast earlier this month and said it's not even on their radar. They get calls, but it's not on their list of things to do.

And thus, the reason I worded my thoughts on "theoretical" expansion in the manner I did.

But with the future of the Coyotes in doubts (constantly, but moreso now than before), a franchise relocation is very much on the table.

My reference to splitting the money with Montreal is about splitting the overall advertising pie available in the province, as there are only so many dollars in french-speaking Quebec and I doubt there's enough to support both teams now. It was not about Montreal having any say in it.

I just think Quebec City is too small. There is very little net new TV money there (unlike Houston, KC, SLC).

There would probably be decent gate, but NHL tickets cost a lot more than the $20 Q League tickets (Quebec and Halifax are the two "big market" Q teams), and I don't think there's enough corporate sponsorship / ticket buyers to be had there.

Your friend bet that Tavares will get another 5 years of extensions after his current contract is over and still be playing for the Leafs when he is 39 years old?

Introduce me, I wanna make bets with this friend.

No I meant sacrificing defense for offense by loading up on forwards. Putting too much of the cap towards forwards. I’m all for speed and skill the way Carolina plays but not Toronto or Edmonton.

Lou also made this an either/or proposition when my question was selected at the Town Hall for STHs 2 seasons ago (interesting how the Isles didn't have a town hall this year). My question was how do you plan to make the Isles quicker. more skilled, younger? He proceded to talk about he doesn't want to win games 8-3 like Edmonton did.

The way Carolina, Florida, Los Angeles, Minnesota, and Tampa when they were at the top of their game, use their quickness with an aggressive forecheck that keeps a slow, poor hands team like ours back on their heels and forces us into giveaways.

The Leafs and Oilers have top-heavy, poorly conceived rosters every bit as much as the Islanders do now, just from the opposite viewpoint.

Agreed, I would like to see the Isles keep their defense first structure but just do so with more speed. The more speed part coming primarily from a forward group that can forecheck aggressively.

Fla vs Carolina?

Vegas vs Dallas?

I guess I'm hoping for Dallas v Carolina in Finals.

And then Dallas victory. Just can't root for the other three, no matter how good they are.

Before the playoffs started, I thought they had the best chance to win it all. Such a well put together team, and it's really helpful that Benn and Seguin are contributing again.

Yes they are; well constructed. Richardson has had a quiet playoffs, if he breaks out, their forward talent and depth is elite. They have good enough D and can lock it down when necessary. Oettinger is a top-10 goalie. They came into the playoffs a bit under the radar, quietly one of the leagues best.

Richardson?

Do you mean Robertson?

If so, I mean, he still has 12 points in 13 games, so I dunno if quiet is the best description... Granted, only 2 of those 12 points are goals.
