The crazy part is for how bad our cap situation is, take a look at the Devils, Leafs and Rags. It is 5x worse for all of them. The Devils in particular have half their team as free agents and little space. They will lose at least 4-5 players from their playoffs starting lineup.
The easy part of the Devs' build is over. Now they have to try to fine-tune their roster to ice a playoff team. The fact that they built from the front to the back doesn't help. Not sure what their goalie situation is. Defense is questionable - Dougie Hamilton at $9M per year for 4 more years is fine for the regular season, but not so much for the playoffs. Marino is just meh. And the guy they should keep - Severson - they have to let walk. Winning a Cup is hard. They have to count on Nemec and Hughes being legit and developing fast.

Salary cap being 82M is still pathetic. I think an 86M cap would be fine, and it would help a lot of teams (including us)

also I wouldn't mind poaching Miles Wood, Severson, or Liljegren from Toronto and NJ

Guess you didn't watch Liljegren too closely last night
I agree that he does have talent and I've always had my eye on him as a guy who could potentially be available, but I did focus on him last night and I saw a guy who at his stage of development seemed to still have a bit of a case of the yips whenever he had the puck. So I'll pass.

Not a Severson fan. Struggles a bit in the decision making department.

The main trade board is funny. Just keep refreshing to see all the new proposals involving TOR players.

Oettinger has been Vas like in games after he plays poorly so I doubt Seattle wins game 7

And that's okay. I still don't mind him being gone. Glad it's working out for him though.

I would've protected him over Martin, Clutter etc., but that's just me. He brings skill, mobility, and creativity that this team sorely needs, and he's playing with grit (consistently) in the playoffs.

Then you don't have Palmieri. That's fine if you said that at the time but I wouldn't assume Eberle would be playing the same way here as he is in Seattle right now. They are different rosters, running a different system, and Eberle is a notoriously streaky player. We saw Eberle for years be streaky and have great start to the playoffs, only to fizzle as the team got deeper and deeper. I maintain he wasn't the answer for this team and they needed to move on from him. Swapping him for Palmieri this season wouldn't have changed much for this team. Was Palmieri the best choice to replace him? Maybe not, especially given his injury history these days. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
