On the one hand, 2023 class is special because they entered the major junior leagues earlier than they should, due to covid, meanwhile 19-20 years old player lost a lot develoep time.
Or, maybe it’s like poker, sometimes you get dealt a great hand and other times you don’t.On the one hand, 2023 class is special because they entered the major junior leagues earlier than they should, due to covid, meanwhile 19-20 years old player lost a lot develoep time.
That Yager take is a big LHaven't seen this posted, it's from Will Scouch and his 2023 draft primer.
Some interesting tidbits:
- Bedard, Fantilli, Benson and Carlsson are his top 4 at the moment (not necessarily in that order), and he would likely take any of them over any 2022 prospect
- Michkov, Gulyayev, Cristall and Perron are in his 5-15 range at the moment
- Dvorsky and Yager seem overrated to him, they're end of 1st round at the moment

Personally I like his work, always an interesting perspective
Watched Yager twice this year and couldnt finish the games, he was boring to watch and was moving rather slowly, not sure what the issue is, but he doesnt look like the promising prospect he was last year. Not sure Moose Jaw should keep playing him down the middle, kid is not a natural center.
I watched the 2nd period of the Moose Jaw game tonight (he got an assist in the period) but I’m not seeing a player I’d be interested in. He seems like a complimentary player and imo, you should be a player that the play drives through to be a Top 10 pick or have very elite scoring ability.I'm not quite as pessimistic about Yager as yourself and Scouch, I myself have him in the top 10 until further notice/another couple viewings, but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time I see him mentioned as a bonafide top 5 pick. Perhaps last year sure, but there are too many interesting, high end players for me to think he's lived up to the pre-season hype.
Well thats only 2 games, not saying he is bad or trying to downgrade him, just that he didnt impress me much in those games, he was lacking some jump and drive...I'm not quite as pessimistic about Yager as yourself and Scouch, I myself have him in the top 10 until further notice/another couple viewings, but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time I see him mentioned as a bonafide top 5 pick. Good news for his draft stock, hopefully they move him back to wing with Korczak back...He's way better off the wing, which is where he played pretty much all of last year. His center was Ryder Korczak last year, who coincidentally was just returned to Moose Jaw as a over-ager by the New York Rangers.
He really thrives with his speed and shot flying down the wing. I don't see him as a center at all at the NHL level and I think playing there has hurt his game. He's definitely off to a bit of a slow start.
He's a bit one dimensional, but has wicked scoring talents. Would prefer one of the myriad of centers available though.
I didn't watch this game, but as far as I know skating is always considered as his strength.Watched Yager twice this year and couldnt finish the games, he was boring to watch and was moving rather slowly, not sure what the issue is, but he doesnt look like the promising prospect he was last year. I would with out a second thought. Hes an incredibly talented player. Even at 4 I would have a hard time passing him over. Specially with having the panthers pick this year and having the 26th and 33rd last year. We'd be in a good spot to wait.If we are in the 7-10 range do we take Michkov and wait a couple of years? Can we afford to do that? If he is availalbe then.
If he's still their, you run to the podium to claim himIf we are in the 7-10 range do we take Michkov and wait a couple of years? Can we afford to do that? If he is availalbe then.
Sam Cosentino was on Hockey Central has Carlsson $#2, Fantilli #3. Yager was #5. Richie wasn't in his top 10. He had Stenberg #9.
I like that list. Both G are ranked in the 1st and happy to see Tourigny at 32![]()
