I know it's the 2023 draft thread, but anybody knows anything about that Bill Zonnon kid? 16yo, 6ft1, 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points in 16 games with the Huskies. Born in Montréal.

Should be eligible in 2024 but on his EP page it's not even written that he is.
Really impressive kid ! Didn't thought he would be that good this year

The numbers are impressive but I havent seen any video yet. Shouldn't there be some hype around him? There's not even a thread on the Draft board.

Quick hands around the net, with a backhand he can lift. Not a goal scorer along the lines of flying down the wing and wristing it home like Pacioretty, which is why he didn't get an A rating from CSS, he also isn't a pure grinder like Gallagher.

He's more in the Brian Bellows, Jake DeBrusk or what Hyman is now type of player. Good energy and pace. Quick hands. I like him, but not a top 20 player.
Florida pick?

I do agree with you, I would personally still even take Michkov at 2oa but curious to see what other teams will think about it
Between 6 and 10.

I have this opinion since at least 6 months and it will not change.

Nobody knows if he will cross the ocean 3 years from now..no one.

As good as he is..he will face extreme pressure from the Russians to stay there in 2026.

If in 2026...he is by far the best player in the KHL and his team wants to keep him...don't be surprise to see Putin and his gang to pressure him and his family to stay there.

Putin hates the West and he will not wants to loose his phenom to us.

I would not draft Michkov as good as he is. I repeat ..he mignt never cross the ocean

I like Barlow in the 12-15 range
Id rather not pick there but Benson, Smith, Cristall and Sale are ahead so far.
Not convinced about this. I think Wood is good but I also think he's not quite there in hand-eye (he's not where Slafkovski is for example), something that affects a lot of players his size.
Notably our very own Josh

Kaprizov came back despite his struggle with the military service. I think Putin has bigger things to deal with than hockey players

Loll
. Think about that...Kaprizov had big problem to come back...after 2 years in the NHL....

Nobody knows what is going to happen with Michkov and the war could get uglier by then...

This guy will not be draft in the top 5..forget it.

All the rumors are saying that his family had big pressure at 16 years old to sign a long contract of 6 years in the khl..

Nobody knows what will happen in 3 years

Florida pick?

Yeah, I should add in a normal draft year he's in discussion for top 10. He's a pure goal scorer, but he's one of a number players Montreal should target at Florida's pick. Quentin Musty, Kalan Lind, are in there with him. Gauthier goes top 20, I think. If not include him too.

So Finland released their team roster for the upcoming U20 practice tournament in Czechia, and the only 2023 eligible player in the main team (there's also a second "challengers" team which includes Halttunen among others) is a player who I've not heard much mentioned: Lenni Hämeenaho.

He's playing as a first line winger for Ässät in Liiga, and has recently started to find his name on the score sheet as well. He reminds me a lot of Sebastian Aho, as he's also an extremely smart player while being a great skater. Physically still very raw, but has a good compete level too.

Could have a decent showcase at the WJC

This is so out of left field. As if Putin will concern himself with the goings of the KHL. Those teams won’t be able to pay players the way things are going (they even had trouble before sanctions).

My 2 cents on Bedard. Despite his size, he can take the NHL's physical grind and abuse. He has a low center of gravity and is strong on his skate. He also has a bit of sandpaper and doesn't shy away from contact or traffic.

He'll be a number 1 Center right out of the gate with anyone. But you're obviously not getting a physical beast like Getzlaf. Best comparable ever is Marcel Dionne. Current very imperfect comparable would probably be Caufield. But you'll have him for a couple more seasons scoring a ton of goals because he's ready right now.

I don't completely disagree they might use hockey players as a bargaining chip for 1 year say, but it's so hard to predict what's going to happen in 2023, I can't even think of how you can predict 2026 lol. Pretty sure Michkov is good enough to get the Stastny treatment... (some help escaping). The chaos you are describing can go the other way as well (not respecting his contract).

Brzustewicz has looked pretty good, and Allen hasn't done f*** all when I've watched him. Brzustewicz has very little shooting talent unfortunately, but is a talented puck mover.

Yeah not impressed with D this year. It's a forward draft.

Things could change but I can see us going 2F & G with our first 3 picks.

You think they go higher?

Definitely. Honzek has a November birthday, but he's a big center, who's leading his team in scoring as a rookie (came over from Slovakia to play for Vancouver Giants). Unless there is a massive drop-off in production, I don't see him dropping to late 2nd. Currently, ppg.

Lind is a tough, two way power forward. He's a much better skater than his brother, Kole. He hasn't been scoring early, but I expect him to pick that up. He hit 20 goals last year as a 16 year old, as it is he's ppg too.

Im always amazed by how many prospects you know and can assess every drafts, Im taking notes for the next mock! :D

Well, after talking about Honzek earlier, I decided to watch the end of the Vancouver Giants - Medicine Hat Tigers game. Honzek assisted on the tying goal with 5 seconds left then assisted on the winning goal in OT by drawing 2 guys to him then slipping the puck between them to a fast breaking forward.

Tigers though are playing 14 year old Gavin McKenna. He got 4A in his 1st game (this was his 2nd). 14! December birthday, so he's a 2026! Kid is fast!

That's right. But there're so many ppg players in this draft class so far. I can name eight in WHL without difficulty… So I think everything is possible.
