Rumor: Laughton trade talks heating up

Seems to be alright but typical flyers.

You obviously see him much more than me, but yeh Torts is playing him over his head which puts the team and player in a bad position

Comes with the territory. I hate Torts. I’m over his coaching style and I’m over his pathetic obsession with players.

He has hard-ons for the Laughton’s, the Cates’, the Nicky D’s and then he hates skill players and plays. It’s just annoying.

I want to him to retire and I’ve wanted them to trade Laughton many times over already.

Could just be that it involves the Jets and that's not a Rogers Saturday headline.

This might be the best forward available to the Jets without any kind of trade protection.

Di Marco is pretty plugged in with PHI, good reporter.

Friedman didn't mentioned it in 32 thoughts but couldn't shot down the rumours if he heard nothings going on

Upgrade on the Jets 4th line? Replace Gus or Kupari on the 4th line thats the only upgrade he is. He would slide in as a 4th liner and an injury replacement higher in the lineup if needed.

Chevy won't mess with the 3rd line chemistry which works great. Laughton isn't a top 6 player.

Meh, maybe if he comes dirt cheap otherwise don't overly care.

Chevy should be focused on getting a 2C (bumping Names to 4C) and 3rd pairing LHD (replacing Stanley) upgrades, both more important then a 4th line winger upgrade.

It is interesting that the Jets are one of the rumored teams interested. I think you're right in that it's a somewhat odd fit. Going out and getting a bonafide 2C would obviously be preferable and make a lot more sense. Problem though, is how many legitimate 2Cs are even on the table for things that the Jets would have to offer up?

That's where Laughton might be a more "realistic" target in a lower cost bracket and no trade protection hurdles to try to sort of do "2C by committee". Run that excellent checking line with Lowry, and then you run two other lines with Namestnikov and add Laughton. Neither is a true "Top-6 Center"...but they both have some ability to stopgap there without getting in the way of wingers driving more of the offense. Certainly not the "ideal" solution, but if they're serious about upgrading, they might have to settle for a less optimal solution that could still work and improve the team via depth. And it'd certainly be an upgrade, even if it's not a quantum leap to a true 2C.

But Laughton does make more sense for a team like the Leafs where he'd slot in more neatly to a "3C" role that the Jets already have more than covered.

Exactly what I’m saying

Eh, I wouldn't say that. He's basically a dumping ground for whatever narrative the Flyers front office is trying to push at the moment. So yeah, he's plugged in, but I'm not sure he's a "good" reporter so much as a selectively useful one.

Whenever Di Marco's out here saying trade talks around a Flyer are "heating up" it's almost better to read that as "teams are inquiring but offers aren't impressing them so they're going to try to push the idea that there's a hot bidding war around this guy in hopes it raises the stakes."

Knies Matthews Domi
Patches JT Marner
McMann Laughton Nylander

Would be nice to roll three lines like that but as is obvious by now Berube will not under any circumstances drop any of the golden boys down to the 3rd line.

Still think Laughton would be a good, affordable fit but he'll likely be playing with McMann and Domi. Could work.

Laughton played perfect game last night according to eye test and hockeystatcards.

Laughton and worst of 4 first-rounders (Phi, Edm, Colo, Team X) for first rounder and B prospect playing in the middle.

Should be easy sell.

10 teams have no first pick. Three have no 1st or 2nd. At least 2 of team will be out after 1st round so they might look to recoup a first or an early 2nd (Philly has 4 with most being early) at the draft.

Lots of options

Has Laughton been playing center for the most part this year? I know in the past there’s been a lot of talk about how he’s more effective as a winger even though he does get slotted in at center a lot. At wing, freed from center duties, he can focus more on being an energetic, physical wreaking ball with just enough scoring ability to move up and down the line-up.

As a center, it’s hard to project him as anything more than a straight 3C on a good team. But frankly, he’s a guy whose versatility as an effective, gritty, complimentary winger might actually be where you get some added juice.

Laughton + Cates for 2026 1st + Danford + 2025 2nd + kampf + Robertson. If the Leafs were able to add these two their top 9 would be incredibly tough to play against.

Cant see them trading Cates at this point without immediate help at c. Seem to be perfect 3c for them. Poehling 4c.

And to the « ape shit » poster, look at past tdl and tell me you cant see Laughton going for a 1st+.

To be honest I'd much rather over pay for Cates from a Leafs perspective. Hes the perfect 3c and his defensive game is fantastic.

All parties agreed. The flyers were only paying for one 3c and they chose Cates over Frost as the rfa to pay. Cates would easily get more than one.
Laughton at a minimum is going to be Goodrow deal else the flyers won't move based on the last two years of history.
