Only a goal every 2 games, what a bum.
I'm not saying he isn't good. But in this season, he's not good enough to be compared to fantilli, carlsson, benson, he was considered as good as them. I know he has a lot of upside, and believe he will be better later this season.
I watched his rookie season and hlinka cup, that's why I said what I said, I think he's not at his best. It's a strong draft class, he needs to defend his place. I don't think his playmaking is amazing, did he make a quick pass led to a goal this season? He is good, but when I watched Benson or Zimmer, I feel more excited.
I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion, I'm just stating my opinion. I'm sorry if my comments offended you.

Nobody is offended, your analysis is just not very good.

At Hlinka, it was fairly apparent that Yager's skating is in another world vs. Benson - on that alone they are not in the same tier, Yager is way ahead.

Tools are only one part of the equation, and Yager's IQ, vision and strength are definitely traits to keep tabs on as the year progresses. He could still easily be the next Cody Glass or Kyle Turris.

And while I know some like to see the glass half full with guys who are underweight, hoping that it means they have more room to grow, some people are just built like toothpicks. (RNH, Turris)

I'm also not really a fan of a player trying to emulate MacKinnon's playstyle. MacKinnon is not some hockey savant. He's just an incredible physical specimen of an athlete. It's almost impossible to replicate what he does, and those who try will likely fail. No different that all the 6'7" defenseman proclaimed as the next Chara. There's a reason it took even MacKinnon 5 years to put it together, and Yager will need to solve that problem with his head rather than brute forcing it.

All that being said he's still firmly my #5 prospect right now, the upside is immense and he has pedigree to back it up including a very good D-1 year and dominant Hlinka.

Yager has been mentioned in the same phrase has Bedard for 6-7 years, he's a very complete player with a diverse, well rounded game with tremendous tools to go with it. RNH/Turris were not well rounded.

What's the general consensus on Michkov's KHL contract? Does it seem like he's going to playing there through 2025-26? If so I could see him dropping 1 or 2 spots depending on who's picking in those spots.

If we have the 2nd pick I don't see Molson being ok with selecting a guy that won't be joining the team for another 3 years if there's a Fantilli/Carlsson still on the board (even if our scouts have Michkov way out front of them).

I think the general consensus is he should go 2 but will go 4 because of Russia and his contract.

Do you really think anyone on this forum would know what is happening in Michkov's mind in 2022?

Yager might not be in the tier of Carlsson/Bedard/Michkov/Fantilli.. but he's still in a tier above Benson. Benson is talented but the skating and size isn't exactly the bet you want to make in this draft if you can avoid it.

He might be in terms of end-result impact with Carlsson and Fantilli and I could easily see a team with good young centers like the Kraken picking Yager over the 2 centers. He's the best scorer (shot, release, in close skills etc.) vs. Carlsson/Fantilli.
