Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli & Michkov are destroying their leagues, so yeah, that's the top 4. Yager seems to be the agreed upon #5.

6+ is where it starts to get more difficult. A lot of different players with similar results in different leagues. Comparisons become more difficult.

I don't think 6+ is difficult.

Dvorsky/Sale are the only ones that could challenge later in the season to enter the top 5.
Allen compete level is elite.

9 and following are more challenging.

He's way better than Hayton, who I disliked & who was hugely over-rated. SSM had a really good team when he played with them.

Ritchie outplayed Wright in their playoffs series last spring between Oshawa/Kingston. Ritchie was outstanding, and showed a ton of drive & high level skill. It was a seriously impressive performance. Had 4g, 3a in 6 gp, I believe.

Ritchie is better than Wright period. Wright should be better but he doesn't use what he has.

6+ is in a state of flux. There's far more likely to be movement into that spot from someone unexpected than anyone else moving into top 5. It could be Allen, Dvorsky, Sale, Ritchie or even Smith if he keeps up his 2 ppg rate for USDP.

It's open to a riser, while the top 4 is not.

Anyways, I really want a top 4 pick. Good news is we're now last in our division, and 3rd last in our conference only 2 pts out of last spot.

Bad news is the west is so bad that Western teams hold down the bottom 5 spots in the standings.

It's going to be very, very tough to beat out Arizona, Vancouver, San Jose & Anaheim. They are all complete trash.

Ritchie stats look good. But I never seen him play. So don't know. Good size for still 17. Probably play 6'3 210lbsish. I would guess. Stats improving so he hasn't plateaued. What you see him big, 60 point second line center?

Looking at the stats Yager 166lbs concerns me though. He's rated top 5 by some on here. PPG player

He definitely has #1 center potential. He's a really good skater, and not for his size kind of deal, I mean he's a good skater period. He's brings effort all over the ice and has great hands for scoring or passing. You don't give this kid an open shot at anything.

He was a little lazy at times last season, but definitely raised his play in playoffs last spring. He seems to be bringing it so far this season.

The top 4 in this draft are franchise players, which is just absurd, and Bedard/Michkov are looking generational. To have someone like Ritchie, as a maybe top 6? Is he top 10 really? Is laughable. This kid is #1 in many, many drafts.

Yager looks a lot bigger than the stated weight when he's on the ice. Kid doesn't skate anywhere he flies. He's got a crazy hard shot for someone only 166lbs. He's go-go-go all the time. I think he's a bit like MacKinnon in that he needs to learn to change pace. It's something MacKinnon learned to do later in his career & it's what got him to fulfill his potential.

Yager is same way. He's always on over-drive.

Comment #1: I don't think anyone has a real shot of entering the top 8 has a riser. Dvorsky, Sale and Allen have 3 years of built-in positioning in the draft (like the top 2-3 usually do). 5th is Yager right now, but Dvorsky could enter because he's a center, and Sale could enter if he's seen as a more productive winger. Allen could enter, there are no others D really in competition for the top 5. Smith is producing, it's not a surprise, but it will take much more than 2 PPG in the draft inflation program to have a shot this year.

Comment #2 : They are playing against each other and Vancouver is a better team than that.

Every year there are a few teams with a bad first 10 games and a few teams that start better than they should (us this year). We saw it with Dallas, when they start applying their system, we are not really in the game against anyone in the top 22-24 teams. It's a good thing that the east is stronger.

The thing with these teams is they will be playing each other a plenty....someone's gotta win right? I believe the west is weaker then the East, and that's kind of good for us as San Jose, Arizona and Seattle amongst others will be playing each other and will pick up many points in contrast when you look at our competition in the East, not too many freebie points, we will more then likely end up on the losing end of most games hence less points.

We are only 1/12 into the season and we have a 4pt lead on these teams.....not worried....at least not yet lol

I'm on board with you man, I want a top 4 pick. I'm pretty realistic in getting that we are more then likely not picking Bedard.....but that's ok, there's still Fantilli, Carlsson and Michkov......and Yager and Sale and Ritchie.

I'm confident that we will be picking 1 of these aforementioned players and it should be enough to get this team out of the mud and gunning for glory.

I could see Allen slipping.

On Yager, yeah I just got burned on Connor Zary out there. Kind of hesitant second time around. But I never seen Yager play so don't really know.

On Ritchie, be great to get him 6-10. So many centers ahead of him he may slide a slot or two.

I keep gathering information as I prepare to be mock Habs GM before draft

Just doesn't have the wheels normally associated with today's elite dmen.

He doesn't and it's concerning. Don't see the McAvoy comparison at all. He doesn't push the pace, can be weak defensively around his own net & isn't a big guy.

Doesn't help him though that he plays with Buchinger. Every time I try to watch Allen I get distracted by how bad Buchinger is defensively. Allen has to cover for him & is failing at that job. Buchinger is terrible.

Like Wright last year, I won't drop him based off a bad start. I didn't quit on Wright til January when I decided to take my 6 week break from watching him.

Thats that length Ive been talking about. He uses so much ice to maneuver around players.

Of course this isnt how hell play in the NHL on every shift, hes just being ridiculous right now, but he will be able to challenge defenders who give him too much ice just like McDavid, Crosby and Malkin do. Id love for Slaf to start using stick and body positioning like that, hed be insanely good.

How would you folks rate Yager’s play-making ability?

He’s a sniper, and that’s cool. Love the kid. Think he’d be a great get after the Fantastic Four.

How is he at setting up plays and feeding teammates with slick passes, IYO?

Some notable players that did not receive A rankings (1st round):

Hunter Brzustewicz (RD) - Kitchener (OHL)
Andrew Cristall (LW) - Kelowna (WHL)
Lukas Dragicevic (RD) - Tri-City (WHL)
Theo Lindstein (LD) - Brynas Jr. (Sweden)
Quentin Musty (LW) - Sudbury (OHL)
Caden Price (LD) - Kelowna (WHL)
Maxim Strbak (RD) - Sioux Falls (USHL)
Koehn Ziemmer (RW) - Prince George (WHL)

I’ve only watched him at the Hlinka and some highlights of his WHL season (and last), so my opinion on him is subject to change.

He’s slick at making no look pass in the offensive zone. Like he’d be on the motion of sniping it and would just pass it back door, for example. I feel like his passing game is better in the offensive zone than neutral zone, where he’d use his wheels more. His playmaking ability is not a force but I don’t think his vision is a problem. Who knows, it could develop into a force.

Just my opinion for now. I’m sure someone with more viewings could tell you more.
