I saw someone comparing Leo Carlsson to Mats Sundin in Carlsson draft thread

Does that make sense ?
Eh, I only remember Sundin from the 00s and not the 90s but I wouldnt compare the two. Sundin was big big, wasnt he like 6 4? He was essentialy a bigger slaf I think. I remember him being heavy and playing heavy, almost like Slaf, really.

Leo is a like a waterbug with long limbs and superior agility.

Hed be Malkin but I havent seen him display the type of power game Malkin had in his prime

I see more Malkin, tbh.
Thanks ! Didn't think it make that much sense, but I would lie if I say that I've scout Carlsson a lot (And was way to young to remember that much Sundin)

Its tough coming up with a direct comparison for him to be fair, hes tall but hes a stick, he does it all but I really havent seen him be physical like Lindros, Foppa, Malkin, hes too dynamic to be Barkov, Backstrom.

I would say McDavid but hes nowhere near as good or as fast, so in a sense, I have no comparisons 😂

Sundin was a legitimate power forward who could pass and shoot the puck with equal ability.

I will really try to watch him more often ! You guys are starting to making me wish that we have the #2 pick😂. I still really want Bedard, but from what I read from you guys (And I trust your judgement) Carlsson is exactly the type of player I LOVE (Barkov is probably my favourite player and Kopitar was one of my favorite when I was younger)

Hes super impressive with the length he has. Thats why he reminds me of McDavid, you know the way McD can make a play with an insane radius around him? Carlsson does that too, just slower a bit.

Theres players that dont use a lot of ice to play, think of Crosby and Gaudreau, they keep it close and make it happen. Carlsson can do this but he also can make things happen beyond that, like Malkin and McDavid do. I guess Barkov and Kopitar also do this to a lesser extent.

If he starts showing that he can use his body offensively to a greater degree ( Ive seen him do it, just not to a point where I can tell hes gonna use this regularly.) Ill say Malkin for sure. Cant wait to see him in the NHL, Im super excited about the 2023 draft.

Carlsson is gonna be that type of center.. I want him badly but not getting my hopes up.

His biggest weakness, it's that he wasn't born 3 months earlier

Yeah, definitely. He's got great hands. Left-shot goal scorer, decent size, good speed & plays an honest defensive game. Pks too.

I liked him last year. I really like him this year. He could get to 50 goals in his draft year. Scored 30 last year.

He started the season on a line with Bryant and Burroughs. He only got an empty goal in his 5 first games. Despite this, he was still generating scoring chances with his speed.

Lately, he is back with Guindon and Petrovsky and they took back where they left off last season. They are relentless in the offensive zone. I really hope Montreal snag him.

It's purely an emotional reaction but we've just been through this roller coaster so many times with the Habs. Really want to snag a high end forward this year.

We will and if we don't, the reason is.. the forwards and defense we have that are youth on the team, are high end.

Literally only Gallagher scored tonight that wasn't scored or set up by a core piece of the rebuild.

What we saw in the 3rd period will happen a lot and against better teams, we wont' escape. The other thing is young players struggle with consistency and with the youth on the back end, there will be nights coming that won't be so kind.

I hope you are right. Habs always end up playing good or decent in great draft year. We come very close to ending up in the bottom in the 2016 draft. Before Galchenyuk has on fire and scored 30 goals that year.

really impressed with Colby Barlow, if he keeps this up he's going to go high in the draft.

I think he could move into top 10 like Meier did. For me there's starting to be top 12 separation.

Bedard, Fantilli, Michkov, Carlsson, Yager, Ritchie, Dvorsky, Allen, Benson, Sale, Danielson & Barlow.

(Not ranked).

After that, you move from Franchise/top line player to top 6/top 3D.

We'll see. It's really early & there's always risers, but Barlow is a good one.
