He generates offense like literally all the elite Ds in the NHL save for Makar, Burns and Karlsson, lol.
My point is he doesn’t generate much offense he touches the puck before someone else who create offense and he end up getting a point. It doesn’t mean he can develop more offense because he has skills and he doesn’t have to dangle everyone like Hutson but usually I expect to see more flashes of offensive quality to project them. Even if he doesn’t generate lot of offense it doesn’t mean he can’t be a great player, I rather have Slavin than Rielly on my first pairing not every prospect need to be elite offense and elite defense or be the next Seider.

Would taking But at 17 be an option ? I know McCagg likes him, but just wondering what others think who may have seen him
Within 10sec of watching him it clear that there is something there but not sure he is a option at 17 it is a bit early especially with the Russian factor I would not be surprised if he drop to the 2nd.

It's weid because in the games Ive watched I saw him jumping up in the play, creating movement off the cycle, keeping the puck inside, taking shots from all over the ice and drawing 2-3 defenders to him to open up space.

Also, defenders generate the majority of their offense from moving the puck up ice and putting the puck on net. Turns out Reinbacher is elite at both.

Not only that, but hes a much, much better playmaker at the same age than Seider.

Watching Kucherov tonight really demonstrated how deadly great edges can be. He’s not the fastest guy but the way he can move laterally just opens things up for him. Probably more important than speed.
Benson, Smith and Cristall all have elite edges.

Actually, you only generate offence if you deke out half the other team, and bounce the puck in off your teammate's ass.

TBH I've seen little of But but this is some good playoff tape. Skating and vision much better than advertised. Florida range seems reasonable.

I like him A LOT.

I don’t know if he’s an option at 17 because of the russian factor? But i would hope so.

Very raw still but the hands he has for his size is impressive. Good passer with good vision.

I would take him at 17 all day but it’s hard to know realistically where he will be picked. Bob Mckenzie has him at 25th.

Still has 2 years to his KHL contract i think

I think it depends on the play style of the player but yes, absolutely. I actually think speed has started to get a tad overrated in scouting. Look at Poehling, if a player isn't capable of weaponizing speed to create offense it's not all that useful. This is my hope for Benson's skating because his footwork and edges are beautiful.

Should have taken him/Kulich over Mesar.

way too early to make that claim....he's a good player, but reaching a verdict this early because of a 15 game sample is never good.

I'd give it a couple more years.....but ya, the Circus is a beautiful talent

Having eyes in the back of you head is also really helpful.

Judging by his name alone and the fact Grant McCagg is going so hard for him, this guy has bust written all over him

Actually the guys Grant raves about often end up being OK to good NHLers... rarely bust but also rarely are great..... and more importantly rarely get picked where he says they will!

Especially with smaller players who actually aren't that fast, but only look fast because they're 5'9 and take lots of short strides vs. a taller player who's skates just as fast with fewer longer strides.

The more i think about it, the more i believe there is, albeit low, a possibility that one of Carlsson or Fantilli falls to us at 5.

It is not out of the question that Michkov may go top 3. I don't think it is improbable that a team goes with Smith or Reinbacher before Carlsson/Fantilli.

As fans we think its hard and definite. Teams will go through a rough interview processess and in deep evaluations of these guys and all it takes is one team drafting in front of us that don't like, or connect with, one of those players.

Think Puljujarvi in 2016, Wright in 2022, etc.

I can't imagine the Russian factor would ever prevent a top prospect from coming over. Habs could get him and leave him in Russia for his contract, or just 2-3 years then bring him over

I don't even understand why he would've signed that contract when he knew he could play in the NHL right away. If it's true what he says about it being his dream to play in the NHL then he would likely be signing a huge 8 year deal by 21 instead of just starting an ELC.
