I don't necessarily think we absolutely need another D. However I'm of the opinion that Reinbacher has a strong chance to end up the best of that bunch. So it's enticing. Not to mention we are pretty light on RHD.
Willander has much better tools IMO, he's just very reserved in his playstyle.
I guess my view of Reinbacher isn’t far off everyone else’s then if you’re all saying 30-40 points. Seems my Guhle comp stuck as well. But in my mind that’s not a guy you take top 7, at least not in a draft this good. Also I have a difficult time projecting elite shutdown defence from any defender, but that’s what would be required to make him worth it that high a pick. So many supposed elite shutdown defenders failed to become as much.
I don't believe Reinbacher will be a top pair d and if we take him who is going to score our goals because right now it's the same anemic offense we have had for the entirety of my 30 year fandom
Reinbacher has as good a chance as any D in the last 4 drafts top ten not named Power to be a top pair D.
If a good defense was all that was needed to create offense we wouldn't have been a bottom 10 offensive team for the last 20 years
In what way is "Caufield and Suzuki (And Dach, and Slaf, and Mesar, and Roy, and RHP, and Farrel...) comparable to what the Habs have had in the past twenty years though ?
Yeah there might still be too many good forwards available for my liking at that rank, but at the same time, go for best available player and deal with the asset later . He looks really shifty, skates well, good frame and IQ.
Until they prove otherwise it's exactly the same they can have all the potential in the world but unless it translates to actual points it doesn't matter I like our prospects as much as the next guy I just won't be all that excited if we take Reinbacher at 5 with high end offense still on the board is all I'm saying

Jesus no its not ok going foward... not a contender top9 at all. We need pretty much everything, offense, defense and goalie. I would take a foward this year at 5 though. I’m not that sure we picking lower then 9, this team has too many good pieces to finish that low, unless of course we are riddled with injuries!!
Id argue Benson has a chance pretty close to 100% to become our best forward too.
We are getting better but so do Buffalo, Ottawa, Detroit, etc. Tampa, Toronto, Boston are going to be contenders for a while. I don't think we will compete next year, depends on the summer and if we win the lottery, but we are 2 years away IMO, lots a deadwood still and kids need time.

Ya….I’m not envisioning playoff contention just yet but I’m not envisioning bottom 8 either.
I think Benson is the BPA at 5. He has the potential to be our best foward just don't rush him. At 6, I dont know Smith enough, but seems to be in front of Reinbacher on every list. It's not that I hate Reinbacher, I just don't see a top10-15 Defenseman in him, I could be wrong.
