Ryan Leonard or Oliver Moore.

And, we have no idea if Montreal likes or doesn't like Benson & Smith.

I've been watching more of Smith though, and boy, yeah, is he ever soft in the defensive end, and occasionally clueless. Terrific offensive player. Strictly one-way.

Would definitely take Benson over Smith.

My thing is Hughes' is clearly well aware of this as well, and my feeling is that it is human nature to go for what is essentially the "mystery box" in this situation

I like Smith.

He has skills, you cannot teach that.

I like Benson, he also has skills, AND compete, and you cannot teach that.

Smith has more size than Benson, whether that makes a difference at the NHL level, we shall see, but the size offsets the compete.

I would be happy with either player.

I do not want Reinbacher.......

Smith's size isn't really a factor. He doesn't use it to any kind of advantage.

We just won it last year, chance we repeat are really really low, but let's hope so.
It's 8.5%

I don't know, I wouldn't even be thrilled with a Benson at our pick even if he was average sized tbh.

I guess he could be a Marchand type but he looks more like a mid 1st rounder to me. Could just be a stylistic preference.

I'd take Smith and Reinbacher over him. Reinbacher ain't super flashy and I know you're supposed to COMPLETELY IGNORE need
but with him our blue line looks absurd going forward. He looks super effective and has that pro translatable offence that might not quite look it
but he could produce at a pretty decent clip.
I dont get why we absolutely need another D (aka Reinbacher).

Matheson (4 years still)-Barron
Guhle-Mailloux
Xhekaj-Hutson
Harris-Engstrom

Is perfect moving forward. We need highend offensive talent (Benson, Leonard, Michkov)

Don't want him with either first round pick.
The guy is scoring at a higher pace than Karlsson did at the same age. He has defensive lapses where you question his IQ but he can become a very good offensive defenseman. Great pick at 17 if the Habs don t get Reinbacher, but he likely won t be there by then.

I don't get why we absolutely need another F (Aka whomever)

Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield
RHP-Dach-Roy
Farrel-Beck-Heineman
Pezzetta-Dvorak-Ylonen

Is perfect moving forward, and unlike you, I didn't even list all the options available ;)

Reinbacher is highend offensive talent.

I'm in the Reinbacher camp but I don't see Seider offensively at all

The value I see in taking Reinbacher is getting a guy that has the physicality and agility to defend 1v1 against good NHL players. Guhle is the only player on our team who really has the potential to put the clamps on in a matchup scenario vs a star.

He may only be a 30-40 point guy but he LIVES in your top-4 and you never have to worry about him
Reinbacher is actually better than Seider during his draft year I find. I remember on draft day when everybody was schocked because Seider was picked at 6OA and Button saying « if you pick him at 6 it means you see some untapped offensive potential, I don t see it ». Same thing with Reinbacher : much harder to get quality offensive zone time when you play with men in Europe than when you play with your peer group in NA.

When do you see him getting picked? and when would you pick him?
3rd round is my guess, like Engstrom last year. If some team really wants a D maybe end of round 2 but I doubt it.

Exactly. It seems that people bring up our win last year like that has an impact on our chances this year. We have a lot of superstitious folk in Habs land.

I agree that we need an elite forward to add to the core, but that defense is far from perfect. Mailloux has major warts in his defensive game and I strongly doubt Barron becomes a strong top-pairing d-man. I view him more as a #4 going forward.
