Each time i saw Cooley and Wright play, i was always more impressed by Cooley. I still put Wright 1st on my list before the draft. Probably because he scored 39 goals at 15 in the OHL…
Wright could very well be another Daniel Cleary..... A player with high potential that peaked in junior.

I had Jiricek over Nemec from the WJC and on, even with his injury. And I think I’m gonna stand by this one.

I'm not discounting it, Jiricek is a great prospect. I just see his delta of possibilities to be wider than Nemec who will be very either very good or great (high probability first pairing). While Jiricek could be great or 2nd pairing (normalizing this to "good" 3rd D).

There's going to be a game 7 in the Pats-Blades series. Bedard had 4 points and looked dominant as per usual. Howe was a beast as well, and played like a complete bulldog as always. I sure hope they eliminate these freaking Blades.

Bedard is insane.

I think Cristall and Wood are my hot takes this year. The stats are just a little bit too much to overlook.

Comparing Cristall to Benson, Cristall's production is better, but it's just slightly better (0.15 ppg better) so I could understand people valuing Benson's motor etc. But I think that's a mistake.

I normally dislike the team strength argument, and I'm not using it to say that Benson is bad or is riding coat tails. I'm just saying some adjustment probably needs to be made. Winnipeg scored just under 55% more goals than Kelowna, 115 more goals. There's just no way that such a huge gap doesn't affect their respective point production. Cristall was in on 45% of Kelowna's goals, Benson was in on 30% of Winnipeg's. Cristall ended up scoring more goals in fewer games played, had more shots on goal in fewer games for a significantly higher shots/g. Too many indicators pointing to Cristall not just being a little bit better offensively, but significantly better.

About Matthew Wood, find me a more productive U18 NCAA player in the last 20 years. End of story.

Wood has grown on me a lot these past months. His skting is horrid but man the rest is tantalizing.

Arizona will find a way to loose againts Anaheim , these guys are tanking soo bad it's too freaking obvious.
Pisses me off .
We'll end up with #6
Not obvious enough.

Players don’t TANK…..fan bases on chat forums do!!

I agree on Wood..

Cristall I've liked all year but I've had to bump down his placement, top 10 is way too rich of a gamble on a guy with the skating issues and the wild swings in performances from game to game. I've noticed a lot of repeated patterns in his delay game, as he goes up levels, with better defenders, I don't know if he is gonna problem solve well enough or if he will be able to adapt his offense to being marked on his delay game.

Benson is definitely a more translatable talent, though I definitely can see a reality where Cristall is the better offensive producer.. but Benson has more favorable outcomes and a range of outcomes where he's an NHL contributor, there's probably only one path for Cristall.

He's definitely not a perfect prospect, and I have seen what you're talking about, but he's my hot take.

There's worse hot takes out there, for sure.

If someone gets it right on Cristall, a lot of teams will kick themselves.

There are so many players like that in this draft where you can point to their production/previous production/skill set that should but isn't producing etc. that will make teams look silly for passing on them even though they all have a giant wart that is tough to look past.

I have prospects that I like more than others but I am not digging in too hard on the ones that I like or dismissing the ones that I like a little less.

People are taking ridiculous hardline stances with some of these kids when the reality is that NHL scouting lists in the top 20 (outside of the top 4) are going to vary more this year than any in recent memory imo. There are so many kids that could realistically go 20th or break into the top 10 that absolutes just aren't remotely reasonable this year when it comes to establishing rank in the 5-20 range.

Quick question which I’m sure has been asked: is there a clear cut top 7 that makes finishing in 5th place desirable?

Or is there a drop off after the top 4?
