Well his model is well presented and the cards are easy and nice to look at. They give a simple (but flawed) answer to a complex question. Its fast food for the casual fan. Happy for him if its popular and if he can have a nice income for it.

Now, Would you prefer Sawchyn or Bjarnason/Fowler with our 2nd? (Assuming both options are available)

I'd take either goalie.

Zach Benson said he spoke quite a bit with the habs already, in his interview with Anthony Martineau.

Smith said he hasn't really been in contact with them yet.

Not that it means that much, not like they don't know a lot about Smith from Hughes.. and remember Slaf wasn't someone they took to dinner.

Hughes and Gorton spoke with Slaf at the world championship a few days before the combine they didn't need the dinner haha!

But yeah, they know a little more about Smith from Hughes but i'd thought they would like to speak with the kid first. I guess they will anyway at the combine.

I see Owen Sound captain and likely top 10 pick Colby Barlow got levelled by Max McCue and had to leave the game in the 1st without returning. I was really looking forward to watching Barlow in the WU18. I hope he'll be ok.

Last year they spoke to everyone but Slaf, this year they spoke to everyone but the top 4 and Smith, likely thats their list, I guess.
I was hoping for a perverted degenerate who is later named in an explosive sexual scandel 5 years into his career myself
So you want Ribeiro?

Probably retaliation for Barlow's hit on George previous game. But, yeah, he might be too injured now.

U18s team should be announced soon. Starts the 20th.

They definitely spoke to Slafkovsky. They just didn't take him out to dinner at the combine. They already talked to him at the World's.

People really made a big deal at the "no dinner for Slaf" happenstance. Lol

The WHL scout probably already knows Benson really well already and has had numerous conversations with him.

It doesn't mean anything.

Gut feeling but I don't think Hughes is going to take Smith. People point to the fact that he coached him for years but I think that is just as likely to be a negative, considering Smith is known for being somewhat lazy on the backcheck and not very involved without the puck.

I think we take Reinbacher over Smith

Im so tired of the narrative around Smith, Cristall and Sale, though.

Who freaking cares if they're "lazy" on the backcheck. Every single elite offensive player is at some point in their career, most often when they just come into the league. Kids want to score goals, not block shots.

This is more of the same shit we have been doing around "making them better persons" and teaching them to grind. Pick the skill and let it flourish. Patrick Kane, John Tavares, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Wayne Gretzky, Nikita Kucherov, Matthew Tkachuk, Leon Draisaitl, Connor McDavid, Peter Stastny, Steve Yzerman all have three things in common, they were all top players in the NHL, they were offensive forwards and they didn't give a flying f*** about their defensive involvment, some of them all their career, some of them early on.

The reason they took players other than Slaf to dinner is because their scouting determined he was the player all along and wanted to find reasons why to consider others. I guess they weren’t really convincing. It’s not surprising with Shane, kind of an awkward kid that seems like he’s just reading off a teleprompter all of the time.

Exactly.

I much prefer a 17 years old that is expressing himself offensively, being creative than a kid who’s playing safe.

They’ll round up their games in the next few years.

Örebro lost their game vs Skelleftea. The series is now tied 2-2. Carlsson had a pretty decent game, his playmaking skills were on display. They just couldn't beat Soderstrom. He wasn't really tested much, though, as Skelleftea were the better team today.

Unless we win the lottery I think we're going for Reinbacher. I really don't see Hughes and co. going for a small forward if the top 4 and Smith are off the board. Shame I really wanted one of the top 4. We have to hope Arizona wins some games.

How does Smith compare to Cooley before this season?

Smith has higher IQ and may actually have more pure offensive talent.. however Cooley has a higher compete level and deploys himself more vigorously defensively.

We will see whether Smith is out by design during the U-18s.

Cooley just has the much, much better skating. I think Smith and Cooley are close overall, Cooley may be a bit more of a hard worker and can play a grinder-style efficient game but generally, he's a high-offense, guns blazing guy.

I'd say Smith has the edge in every offensive tool except passing, where they're both close and very hard to discern. Meanwhile Cooley edges him out hard, very hard in motor and skating. Cooley is like Moore but with actual elite offensive tools, while Smith is like Zegras moreso.

I just think we should use the same criteria as a mother looking for the perfect boyfriend for her daughter. After all, mothers know best.

The habs scouting department would benefit from hiring a wholesome grandmother as a prospect consultant. Bring her to the combine. She would give one of her freshly baked cookie at the beginning of the interview, just to see if she gets a proper thank you.
