Size is obviously a factor, but how far do you push size in the equation when the tools aren't even close?

You can like Barlow and Dvorsky all you want, but we are really stretching their tools to say that they are better tools than Benson or Smith.

Now, I understand the concerns of translatability with Benson and Smith - the concerns on Bensons size and skating, Smith's "low motor and cheating".. sure like that's fine.

But how many high floor guys do we need to draft until we feel its acceptable to push our chips in and take the swing?

Caufield's concerns certainly were nothing to be worried about yet high floor Poehling just lends him to being a 4th liner.

Tkachuk was a high floor guy. Sometimes the ceiling is higher than you think with those guys.

But regardless, I think it’s too early hitch yourself completely to a prospect just yet. While Dvorsky is my guy at the moment, I do need to see him dominate at the U18s. I think he will, but if he doesn’t he will move down my list.

I’m also assuming Benson is 5’9”. If he’s 5’11” that will certainly change things to the positive for him.

I'm more than willing to revise my interpretations on Dvorsky if he comes out and shows some things at the U18s.

I was hoping to see more from him away from the Allsvenskan at the WJCs, but I saw more of the same.. so the U18s will be the spot to tell me, he has the skills and he's just not comfortable using them against higher competition, or he doesn't have the skills and WYSIWYG

Stats wise he looks impressive.

Take Benson at 5, or 6 if he's there. With Florida's pick take Honrek, Wood, Danielson, But, someone else ? Get the skill and the size ?

Assuming the Habs suck again next year what's the probability of a Reinbacher type dman being available top 10 next season ?

Ya I’m not married to Dvorsky here, he’s my bet at this point but there is certainly some showing and proving needed from him between now and the draft.

Reinbacher type? Not that high.. but there's more than a few dynamic RHD that will be available.

Yet as good as Tkachuk is, he still can’t come close to sniffing the playoffs. He’s bigger and “tougher” than his brother but is clearly less skilled and the difference shows. And if the Sens do make the playoffs soon, it will be because of Stutzle, who was passed on by the Kings because Byfield was a lot bigger.

So, the question becomes.

Benson/Michkov, or Reinbacher ?

We need both.

Also, Cole Brown as a later round pick ? Big bodied that looks to be on the 2nd line.

I think you'd take the talent up front.. with the number of good RHD prospects next year, you'd have to be in the top 5 to grab an elite talent offensively next year and I don't think we will be.

This might be the worst point I’ve ever read on these boards. You think the Uber skilled Oliver Wahlstrom would have been the better pick since the Isles are in the playoffs???

Tkachuk is a ppg power forward and captain in the NHL. The guys value league wide is enormous. Ottawas issues aren’t because of Tkachuk, give me a break.

He’s been there 5 seasons and they aren’t much better. They got better when they added skilled small guys like Stutzle, Debrincat and Giroux. Tkachuk doesn’t move the needle. He’s a complimentary player, much like Barlow and Dvorsky will be.

LMAO. Just admit you were wrong.

Wrong about what? I didn’t say Brady is a bad player. He’s a great complimentary player. But it remains that it’s more important to add skill, which the Habs lack, than it is to add size, which the Habs do not lack.
That Tkachuk shouldn’t have been the pick for us. He’s a great player. Trying to knock him at this point just makes one look bad.

Same here. They're not going to be good, but they're not going to be bad, unless injuries strike again.

However, they have potentially 2 1sts next year.

Habs could always make a trade for Parayko...

I just did another quick sweep and there's some players with size that are interesting.

Habs 2nd could get David Edstrom, or maybe Charlie Stramel.

Jamesd Petrovski - Later round pick, looks to be buried on the team and might step it up next season, big boy at 6'3

Connor Levis - Almost ppg, 6'2, looks to be projected to be around the 3rd round pick.

Cole Brown

Owen Outwater - Interesting name. Worth being drafted just because

Kai Uchacz ?

Coulson Pitre.

Benjamin Brunelle - Not the best regular season numbers, but he's at ppg through 2 playoff games. Could be worth a follow to see how he does. Could be a coming out party of sorts.

There's a lot of interesting prospects based on stats relative to the league they play in.

There are 6 dmen points wise ahead of him.

Zach Metsa - Graduating
Jake Johnson - Graduating
CJ McGee - What a name, but also graduating.
Jacob Nordqvist - Graduating.

I assume they are all graduating as they're all 24, or older.

The other 2 are 22, or turning 22 this year.

Projected to be a 7th round pick, potential to be worth while to draft and let them develop ?

I really like him when he was playing Midget AAA in his QMJHL draft year

Wouldn’t mind using a late round pick on him

Hahahaha hell yeah! But seriously, the way he talks during the interview, he just seems to be a kid that loves to play hockey and wants to give everything on the ice. Seems like he knows how to handle himself. Not like Logan Cooley who could barely speak hahaha

Benson's mullet is much better than this monstrosity

We win #1 than of course it's Bedard.
If we win #2, I'm leaning more towards Carlsson than Fantilli.
If we pick #5 or #6, I'm leaning Smith over Benson.

The Florida pick is a total question mark, but let's assume it's between #14 and #18. It all depends on who falls or is still available. If Sale is anywhere in that range, I'd definately pick him, but chances are he'll be top 10 more than falling.
Could Yager fall in that range? There's so many things that could happen in that mid-teen range, but at #14-15, we might end up with a good player that fell.
