Removing the Russian factor.. Carlsson is my #2 prospect in the draft. He's just an insanely smart and skilled player in a 6'3" package that will just get more dominant as he gets stronger.

You're potentially looking at the next Anze Kopitar.
So are you picking Fantelli or Carlsson if we win the 2nd lottery and are pickng 2nd overall?

Wouldn't want to draft a complimentary player (Brindley) to a dynamic player (Fantilli). Ideally, we would be drafting the dynamic player of a line with our first pick.

What if we do something like last year's draft? Draft a safer player with our first pick and then draft a more boom-bust prospect a la Hutson with our 2nd 1st rounder?

Say we draft:
7. Dvorsky / Leonard / Moore
14. Cristall

How would the board feel about that?

I have Cristal at 7 and Dvorsky/Leonard inside my top 15 so ill be glad with all this.

Moore is outside the top 20 for me and I wouldn't be too thrilled, I do think he's a fair bet to be a player though.

Just a thought, I think Brindley would be fantastic on a team like Buffalo with their many big and talented forwards, or even with Dallas or Florida.
We don’t really need that type of player right now. I do like him tho

Especially when the Habs have guys like Farrell, Mesar and Roy who should end up playing a similar part in the Habs future if they pan out.

The Habs need dat dere gamebreaker, as they always f***ing do, lmao.

Habs keep the Florida pick.

Which pair are you taking. It's one of those you're forced to take one, or the other.

Benson
Dragicevic

Or

Reinbacher
Wood.
Two because Dragicevic is a step down from everyone here

I doubt very seriously any GM picks a player that high who may not come for many years, if at all.
Don't get me wrong I love this player and his upside but most GM's know they have a limited amount of time to get their franchise turned around and competitive. A guy like Will Smith could help the Habs much sooner.
It's a tough call either way.

Depends. If Michkov is as good as advertised, you'd shoot yoursekf in the foot to bring a player who won't be an immediate contributor and difference maker.

Id the selected player needs a few years to season, then why not wait for a more "guaranteed" superstar in the making?

Unless Gm's contactsd him and he really is evasive concerning coming to NA... I wouldnt skip over him too long.

1. we may be drafting 8 - 10 at this rate.

2. My gut still tells me Mishkov is going 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

But I would be over the moon if we got him. And I also don't care if he even comes in 5 years. Having Mishkov from 23 years old to 38 would be fine by me.
Unless a team already has a Marcel Aubut plan in motion, Michkov is not going top 4. Maybe 5th, but my guess he's going somewhere 8-12th.
Under normal circumstances he's a lock in at #2.

Smith is most likely a winger. I don't know, he's slow, often uninvolved, doesn't care much on the defensive side or when the puck isn't close to him.

His puckhandling is great, he's an awesome puck distributor and all but he 100% lacks dynamism. His shot isn't great (Its okay), etc. I have trouble coming up with a similar player that had success in the NHL. Whereas I can come up with playstyle/skillwise examples for everyone else.

Suzuki is the closest one I can think of but Nick has that absolute laser beam wrister that Smith just does not have and I also feel like Nick is low-key tough to play against because he's sneaky and so stocky, whereas Smith is just... there ?
I'm right there with you on Smith. He gives me Galchenyuk vibes. And I agree I don't see any high end NHL centers that have a comparable game.

Oh Galchenyuk could be one, but Chucky was super dynamic in juniors though. Much more than Smith.
I was in my teens when we drafted Chucky but from what I remember he had trouble executing his slower paced game in the NHL, as well as his defense and engagement issues. Similar problems I could see Smith having.

Also Will Smith is just a terrible hockey name, so there's that

Michkov will almost certainly be drafted in the top 4. Don't see him sliding any further than that so unless we win one of the lotteries it's not looking like that will be a possibility.
I don't see him going till least after 10. Draft is to deep. Gm's don't like risks and having wait this long. If draft was weaker sure I can see that.

Change his name to William Smithwick, now you got a player.

I f***ing should have seen it with Lafrenière, that's not an elite hockey name.

Good work! I am purely stat watching saying this but, you are not the only one placing Cristall outside the top 15, whats the deal with this guy? Elite stats, similar to benson and he seems to have some nice highlight real goals this season, he's got to have huge flaws right?
