He'd try to recapture earlier magic and nickname him Jean DalivoMolson would never allow two guys named DVO. He runs a tight ship.

Insane first round. 2003 and 2015 mashed together. For whoever has The Athletic. Not even sure the rules anymore..can I post just the names?
To be a generational small player, you need to help your team win a Stanley Cup. That's what the great McCagg says. So nobody small could be called generational BEFORE they make their team win a Cup. But BIGGER players can?
Any logic there? Small, you need a Cup. Big, you don't need anything? How the f*** does it make sense? f***ing clown.
Yes but the league doesn't necessarily have to have a generational talent in it. For example in the NBA, once Lebron retires, there is no 1 player in the league that is generational. You have superstars like curry or Giannis but no LeBron. The NHL might go through a period of 5-10 years once McDavid is out of his prime where it doesn't have a generational talent. That's more dependent on the state of McDavid over time than anything else. There is no Bedard in the next 3 drafts (unless Misa grows a ton before his draft in 2025, just granted OHL exceptional status). When Bedard will be 25 (in 8 years) - McDavid will be way past his prime.
Yeah, center or not, Bedard is going to be an absolute elite level player, he moves like Marner out there and his shooting/scoring skills are unreal.Even if Bedard tops out as Patrick Kane, who the hell wouldn't want Kane? Guy is scary as f*** offensively, and is a playoff beast with 3 Stanley Cups.
Exactly. I think he's on that level of elite 1OA picks like Kane, Matthews, etc which isn't a slight in the least. It means you'll be a Hart candidate pretty much every year as a top 5 player in the game. But I don't see Bedard as being at a level where McDavid and Crosby were and are. Nothing wrong with that. That expectation is very unreasonable tbhEven if Bedard tops out as Patrick Kane, who the hell wouldn't want Kane? Guy is scary as f*** offensively, and is a playoff beast with 3 Stanley Cups.

Well I think his line of thoughts is that some smaller players usually have a harder time to translate their offensive production from the regular season to the playoffs where the game gets tighter/tougher. Gaudreau for example had several outstanding regular seasons, but always has been criticized for his playoffs performances by his own fans. Playoffs are long, painful and difficult for the body, but I dont see it as a problem personally if you surround your smaller players with bigger ones. Thats where adding guys like Slafkovsky and Dach will help the franchise alot going foward. To be a generational small player, you need to help your team win a Stanley Cup. I agree, I never seen a kid that young with such deadly shooting skills, thats crazy. Not only is his shooting/scoring skills unreal.. I think they may be the best I've seen. He's probably a Matthews level shooter -already-.
crosby is 5'11. And was generational. BEFORE he played one game in the NHL. Bédard is 5'9'' today. But shouldn't be called generational. RAre are the players that are great that are small? Yep. Rare. Does that mean non-existant? RAre are also generational talent. Anyway, his point was you can't call them generational before they win a Cup. So I guess McDavid, while bigger, is also not a generational player...Just plain stupid.Well I think his line of thoughts is that some smaller players usually have a harder time to translate their offensive production in the regular season to the playoffs where the game gets tighter/tougher. So, lets speculate here. Lets say we win the lottery, get the 1st OV spot again. We are at the end of that draft year and Bedard projects more of an absolute elite sniping winger force than a center, the most talended player in the draft, then you have guys like Dvorsky, Fantilli, Carlsson who project as big talended top line centers in the making. What do you do, who do you pick? The biggest talent in the draft or a guarenteed top line center with size? I think thats where Grant wanted to go that early about that draft class.

With his skills level, especially his shooting skills, I think its safe to assume Bedard will be a force, its more a matter of what position he will play at the NHL level for me. But no question he is a special player.crosby is 5'11. And was generational. BEFORE he played one game in the NHL. Bédard is 5'9'' today. But shouldn't be called generational. At that level of talent it doesn't really matter where he plays as long as he is on the ice.
But can ee play defenz!?

Best thing to do is just cite some rankings.
He has Benson too high (4 ahead of Dvorsky and Yager)
First one I've seen to have Carlsson that high (might even have him ahead of Yager I forget).
Doesn't rank Ethan Gauthier.
Stenberg too low (20s), and Lindstein (30).
Allen is his highest D at 11.
Halttunen down in the 20s.
