2023 NHL Entry Draft

Tough to believe a team could lose the draft lottery and end up with Carlsson. This team better not compete this year. I know it's almost impossible with the lineup, but this draft is as important as 2016 for the Leafs.

Axel Sandin-Pellikka - discuss

Looks better offensively vs. Lindstein

ASP is late 2nd round at earliest. Small RHD from Sweden haven't had too much success in NHL lately. He hasn't really produced much at any level & barely played u20 last year; meanwhile Lindstein has already played in SHL. So far, I'm not a huge fan of either.

Hunter Brzustewicz (RD) is someone to keep on eye this year in OHL. He decided to join Kitchener Rangers over Michigan. A good call. He's a fall birthday. Will be 18 in November.

It all depends on the range. I don't think we are in 7-10. The only way that happens is if we get jumped 2x from behind in the lottery and then we'd be at 7. Which is reasonable for Allen but I don't think I could justify taking Allen over Carlsson or Dvorsky there, unless Dach just had a 60ish pt season.

Regardless, Dvorsky or Carlsson should be the pick. You can never have too many centers.

Conor Bedard is in the same category as Matthews , Mackinnon , Crosby ect. Same with Michkov.

You pick one of the 2 you get a franchise superstar.

Any thoughts on Matt Wood?

6'3 RH winger.

45 goals in 46 games in the BCHL this past season. Led the entire league in goals, points, and points per game

First time eligible in 2023. I know the BCHL has been weak the past couple years, but could he be the next Cutter Gauthier?

Not sure a group argument is appropriate at all.

Maybe present day Crosby. But I agree with your general premise. There are generational talents like Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux, Crosby, McDavid, etc. Then there is a level right under that with the likes of Matthews, MacKinnon, yzerman, Kane, etc. I don't think Bedard and Michkov are generational but they are going to be franchise superstars in the league (top 5ish players basically every single year)

Bedard is very much in that tier in my opinion.

We can agree to disagree. I like Bedard and think he'll be a perennial top 5 player in the league but he isn't gonna define a generation like Crosby and McDavid. Even when the previous two didn't win Hart trophies, pretty much everyone knew they were still the best. There was even a huge segment of people that thought McDavid should've won the Hart this year. Point is, I see Bedard as being another Matthews, MacKinnon or prime Kane. Someone who'll compete for the Hart every year but won't be seen as the best in the world long term

Bedard
Michkov
Fantilli
Carlsson
Yager
Dvorsky
Ritchie
Benson
Allen
Sale
...... And so forth

What a freakin year

Either way, we're getting a franchise player.
I hope Habs are lucky enough to have the decision between Carlsson, Dvorsky, and Yager. If that's the case, and if they add someone like Dubois in a year or two, Habs top 6 going forward will be absolutely stacked

It isn't. It's just a note. Don't think ASP is 1st round material at this time. He needs a breakout year in u20. Otherwise he's 3rd round.

Potentially, I'm not advocating for anything with him, I haven't seen enough. But - he looks more "there" than Lindstein at this tournament, while it seems like Lindstein was covering the D a bit more (well). Someone to watch IMO.

Is it really crazy to think that Bedard ends up a winger in the NHL?

I don't think so

But this draft seems to have everything we need except a top goalie. Centers, powerforwards, RHD galore

In August 2004...( 10 months.before the draft) Sidney Crosby was at 5.10 and 180 pounds.

He played on the wing at U20 with Canada in

2004 : 16 years old with Stephen Dixon at center on the fourth line.

2005: First line winger with Patrice Bergeron as center.

+

MARC-Antoine Pouliot took half of the face offs when they were together with Rimouski.

Sidney Crosby = A generational center in the NHL.

So I am laughing when I read that Bedard will be a winger in the NHL..

That's more dependent on the state of McDavid over time than anything else. There is no Bedard in the next 3 drafts (unless Misa grows a ton before his draft in 2025, just granted OHL exceptional status). When Bedard will be 25 (in 8 years) - McDavid will be way past his prime.
