Oh then he changed with Michkov’s recent explosion. He said closer to 10 in January.

His recent tune changed after a couple of KHL viewings, where he saw a much better player. I tend to agree that his KHL play has been superior to his VHL games, though I also would never have dropped Michkov like that.

He once had him as low as..........16 I think? Which seemed absurd to me and I'm going to suggest some emotion got into it.

The top 4 are phenoms,, the rest are not elite...
We need to get to the top 4 to make a big impact for the furture.
Otherwise the tank will last a other 3 years.

In order to get out of a contract in the KHL, at least last time I heard this, the player has to buy out his remaining years and it takes 1 year to do so. Meaning if he did this in say June, he would have to play in the KHL next season and then he could come over.

Yup, and his NHL team can't do it for him.

I don't think it's a question of if you can work your way around that Mitchkov's contract.......the real question is why did he signed it to begin with.
Great point Millhouse...Michkov must have
known he was going to be drafted in the NHL
in summer of 2023. If he truly wanted to be
playing in North America he wouldn't have signed a contract in Russia which extends into 2025.

And he let Ovechkin come to NA. And is clearly happy Ovechkin is breaking records over here and getting positive attention for Russia. There’s a lot more to gain to have Michkov in NA as soon as possible to Make Russia Great Again with a hall of fame worthy career than there would be playing for SKA for a few more years.

They want to control Russian players, but not prevent them from playing in NA.
Yea...but that is well before the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Putin will be looking for more soldiers to fight on the front lines.

The only so-call "phenom" in the draft is Connor Bedard...not Fantilli, not Carlsson,
not Michkov...

Eh, Ive been asking myself this for months now. I think so yeah.

I did bring this up a few weeks ago, Reinbacher is almost a perfect blend of both Jiricek and Nemec. Nemec has the incredible offensive vision and smarts, Jiricek has the booming shot and rugged play. Reinbacher ties it all up in a perfect package. Love the kid and he's definitely in the tier with these two. I still think I would pick the other two ahead of Reinbacher, but that is with the benefit of a whole D+1 year on both. On draft day ? I don't know. I had Nemec 1A and Jiricek 2A, I think Id have Reinbacher 4th in 2022.
Trying to derail the discussion back to the actual draft vs if we hypothetically can break Michkov's contract.

Sign me up for Reinbacher if this is the case. Having Hutson, Reinbacher and Guhle really sets us up for our D going forward.

Man I would love Wood with FLA 1st. If we are going to gamble on someone with bad skating it should be one with a lengthy elite production resume.

Clearly by blocking Michkov for 3 years things have changed and there is little doubt that Michkov is a political pawn in a time where Putin is now in an Autocracy. There is no comparison to what happened with Ovi in his draft year and Michkov in his.....entirely different circumstances.

I am sure Putin would love to see Michkov come over because it would mean that the West is on bended knee and paying his ransom.

NHL doesn't allow it. It'll just lead to situations of bribes, and other underhanded situations. Teams are not allowed to pay shit to get a player out of Russia.

It has already happened many times under the guise of "transfer fees". Officially the player pays his way but unofficially we all know where the money comes from.

I thought it was interesting that Will Scouch doesn’t have Michkov as high as others despite being a scout that very much values talent. His issue is that Michkov is an elite finisher, but that’s about it. If you have the guys around him to do the work, he’ll put the puck in the net. Doesn’t really sound like someone Gorton/Hughes will value much.

On the other hand Will Scouch is a self proclaimed scout but is anything but....just another nerd with an opinion on something he has never experienced.

Will Scouch sucks and Im tired of him.

What kind of analysis is that? Hes an elite finisher and thats it? He just had the greatest draft year season in a decade playing for f***ing Sochi, which is barely a KHL team.

What a poor understanding of who Michkov is as a player. Hes not a finisher, hes a goalscorer.

Scouch is an *** clown

This is wrong though. Michkov creates plays by himself, and he's very adept at setting up his teammates. There were a lot of plays for Sochi where he gifted his teammates goals with perfect passes. The guy is just an incredible player on offense.

There are no transfer fees between KHL & NHL clubs anymore. There's no transfer agreement. They've simply agreed to honor each other's contracts. That's it. Once a player's contract ends in KHL, NHL teams can sign them or vice versa.

It's been like this for more than a decade.

I think that Zach Benson, Will Smith and Andrew Cristall have potential to be elite. More risks, but potential is there. I'm still not sold on Leo Carlsson. I know he's real good but need to watch more of him.
