Reminds me of Wright though, hence he could fall. Expectations were very high and he fell short of them, GM have short term memory. Same with Raty.
What? How is he falling short of expectations? He is third in PPG in the VHL and hes outproducing ppg+ AHL players like Paquette and Varone. He would be a 50-60 points player as a 17 years old. Hes insane.

I agree with you but people expected him to be a KHL regular with great scoring stats. Not saying I agree with this thinking just that may explain (in addition to Russian factor) why he is slipping down the rankings.

honestly, I can’t understand why people keep talking about the draft in terms of roster building. In my opinion, there should be an impenetrable mental wall between player evaluation and selection and roster projection.

This is not the NFL. Draft who you believe will be the best player, not who will fit your team better.

Fitting your team is the key priority, not sure what you're taking about here.

It appears likely given the report. Hughes answer to the report and how the draft went for the Canadiens, that it is unlikely they select a Russian
So thats a political move... no wonder why they went with that ugly RBC patch, they've announced their allegiance.

That's an accurate assumption. But they selected Slaf first overall instead of the safe pick last year, so who knows.

Everyone is Armia, we've discussed this already.

My description of Michkov is a "goalscoring Sidney Crosby".

He gives up elite playmaking for elite shooting accuracy.

Same sneaky IQ and flair for the big moments.
Similar size at maturity, similar skating stance (stability).

While Bedard is Joe Sakic on steroids.

Yeah he's the second best player in this draft. If Hughes passes on him the only way that ends up looking good is if Michkov gets stuck behind an iron curtain or worse.

I totally agree with you but if WTK is right about the Habs making Michkov a do not draft player then we already know the Habs are not going for the BPA. They're bringing other criteria to the drafting table. It's not size but it is something else other than skill.

On the other hand, their co-head scout is Russian and maybe he has some insight into Michkov's development that we are not aware of.

Why is Gabe Perreault ranked so low?

His offensive numbers are through the f***ing roof.

I sure hope the Russian factor is REAL amongst NHL Teams scouting staff.

There's is another Conor Bedard is this draft class and his name is Matvei Michkov.

The only downside with him is that he's a winger...

Everything is elite.

MTL is part of the russian factor. I feel like he's a no draft unless he falls to florida's pick for us, and that won't happen.

This is getting away from conversation about draft eligible players, but I dont believe so. Not when prospects are 2 to 4 years away from being regulars in your line up. It's simply impossible to reliably predict what the roster will look like in 2 to 4 years.

Molson might not accept drafting a player that won't be playing for the team for 4-5 years. And can rebuilding teams afford to take a player in a deep draft class that they might not ever see. If the Habs have 2 picks in the top 12 and say a 3rd late in the round they COULD risk it.

Case in point
2018 with KK, look at the roster 4 years later... anybody thinks drafting for need is a good idea?
2019 with Cole. Byron, Gally, Domi, Tatar, Shaw, Lekhonen... anybody thinks drafting for size is a good idea?

Not ever? Hes expressed multiple times that he wanted to be a NHL player, the KHL contract is only money.
