I've been saying Heidt is Suzuki with a worse shot/better skating for a while. I think more in the 8-13 range though.

He's got that heavy, low center of gravity that'll allow him to shield and protect the puck well at all levels. Defense needs to develop, but so long as he makes it a focus, as Suzuki did, he can probably get up to at least NHL average.
I dont see Suzuki at all.

If you want a center from the Habs Id go Koivu maybe, but with a one-timer that makes him a treat to score on the PP and on the cycle.

He does have the same weakness as Cristall, not super good defensively but Ive seen him compete and I cant fault him there. Id say hes also a bit too pass happy, sometimes he should trust his shot more because its great.

You went from he isn't top 15 in this draft to he may be top 6 in a couple months on Heidt. Interesting. We had this discussion earlier this season.

Anyways, came here to post this link. The Hockey News did a 1st round draft ranking based on analytics only. No opinion.

Categories are:

Elite: McDavid, Crosby type performance

Top Line: Pettersson, Stutzle, Kopitar, Barkov, etc.

Top 6: can become top line, but not a sure thing, should develop into top 6 forward Minimum

Impact: has the largest variance swing, could become a top line player, top 6, could bust, could be middle 6

Regular: more likely to be bottom 6, or bust.

Only one player is considered in the Elite category. Any guesses? :naughty:
They got Dvorsky 14 could be good pick with Florida pick. Barlow they have 11th, good pick with our choice. I think he is going to be natural goal scorer in NHL. Musty they have at 28, be a steal if we acquire a late first.

Yeah, overall it's a good list. One that I largely agree with. One truly elite player. 3 top line forwards. Then about a dozen forwards all with top 6 or better potential.

Benson, Cristall, Dvorsky, Smith, Sale, Leonard, Moore, Barlow, Yager all have similar potential.

We'll be arguing about who we should pick til draft day then probably argue how we took the wrong guy forever.

Interesting to see Noah Dower-Nilsson so high. I liked him as a potential sleeper pick late 1st, but I guess not.

Thats because you haven't seen Heidt. Heidt is basically the playmaking version of Leonard and Id say hes a much better shooter than Leonard is a playmaker. He has a similar pro style game but is a better skater. Both are little bulldogs.

Riley Heidt is the most underrated player in this draft. Debating having him at #6 right now.
He is the one of the bunch I skipped quickly I have to admit, in both games I watched he struggled to generate offense 5 on 5, Ive been quick to move on, so Im just done watching his last game and yeah this kid is legit for sure, he checks alot of boxes that should make him a really good NHL player. His speed and skating agility are high level, so is the decisions making under pressure, he is an ultra quick processor, very strong puckhandler and good playmaker. He reminds me a bit of Ostlund from the last draft in that regard, but he is much stronger along the board and tougher to handle, his compete level/motor top notch, but in that last game I watched, he didnt generate alot 5 on 5 either. So while you get a surefire NHL center, does he projects more like a good 2nd or a great third who still can play on your PP? Thats my only concern here, his celling as a center vs a top 6 sniping winger like Leonard. Heidt is the type of player I really like and skipped too quickly obviously. I would say he gets picked around 15, but in a such draft, you never know. Center vs center, I still prefer Oliver Moore over him though, better sniper.

I don't know Nilsson. Have limited access to prospects.

We need Noah Dower Nilsson. That 3rd first is important.

Who do you prefer between him and Wood?

Definitely Wood but I don't think Wood is available as late as Dower-Nilsson will be.

I have a hard time ranking these 4 players…Leonard, Heidt, Danielson and Ritchie. How do you guys rank them?

Heidt
Ritchie
Danielson
Leonard

You draft to build a championship team, ideally big fast and talented at the top of the draft. small talented players drops all the time, you cant have too many on your team unless they are deceptively fast and tremendously talented.

Why Benson or Cristall when you can potentially draft a Brindley later in the draft?

My answer? Cause Benson and Cristall have offensive tools that Brindley doesn't have. It's like comparing Garland to Gaudreau. Yeah, Garland is a good little player but Gaudreau destroys him in offensive tools.

Watched some Dvorsky in J20 today. Thing about Dvorsky is he kinda looks the same against J20 as against Allsvenskan, instead of just running roughshod over them.

Watching ASP right now, one thing that he has that Brännström and Söderström didn't have is ability to separate from checks. I thought Brännström would struggle at the NHL level because of it and I've been right about that so far. Lundkvist is so far the best of that bunch so far, and ASP is a much better skater. Has less chutzpah than Nils, though, and was playing a much larger role in his d year (smaller role on the national team, though).

What is it about Reinbacher that make him raising so high a lot of list?

I see a very good player but I just don't see a 1st pairing NHL D, so it it high floor type situation or is there also high upside that I'm not seeing.

The key to stabilising our blueline for the next 10 years. Better hope we suck next year too, even if Kiviharju likely won't go 1st due to being an undersized defenseman
