I think we need that elusive Robertson, Matthews, Mcdavid, Mackinnon, Pastrnak, etc type of player much more than we need a top pair D.

If you look at top teams in history, most of them made it with one very good D, on good and a bunch of okay Ds.

Makar/Byram
Hedman/Mcdonagh
Keith/Seabrook
Doughty/Voynov
Letang/Dumoulin


We needed all those Ds because the Habs best forward was either Plekanec, Gallagher or a 20 Yo Suzuki.

yeah I still think CC can be that possibly but I incline to agree with you. If we can get an elite franchise forward, it could push us into perennial contender category. It's a pretty close call though. If we could add a top pairing RD, our D could be drool worthy in a couple years.

With a D that good we could potentially get away with CC, Suzuki, Slaf, Dach and whatever we have in the pipeline. But if you add a franchise forward to those 4 then we could have a really lethal offence.

If you can grab Cristall with the Florida's pick, that would be awesome. I would find our RHD prospects just fines!

Bedard and Fantilli, not even close. Michkov is a top 2 talent but not with his KHL contract, Habs need to start win games after this year draft.

Well we’re 7th this morning and i believe we can go no lower then 4th….so we definitely giving ourselves a chance.

If Florida can just freefall and we can be so lucky like the Sens with the Sharks pick and have 2 top 7 picks….would solidify our youth and talent and we’ll be off to the races from there.

Lots of hoping in there but…..

Easy call, Bedard and Michkov. You get the 2 best players of the draft and with Bedard, you can wait 3 years for Michkov

Florida is one more injury away from a top 10 pick, holy! We slid down to 8th and I imagine we will keep sliding down the standings but we will never catch the ducks or blackhawks.

I'm not sure how anyone can watch Edmonton, with their group of forwards, and say we need a franchise forward. We need a #1 puck moving defenseman. All the teams winning cups have them. We don't. We can keep stocking up the forward cupboard but at some point we need a true #1. We haven't had one since PK and Markov. That said, it's not a great defensive crop this year, but I don't think we turn it around and start competing for a wildcard without that #1 d. I really hope our staff has their eyes open and trade a couple more guys and go heavy on d in the later rounds and hopefully hit a homerun pick.
