Theres Bjarnasson and Hrabal that are interesting. Let them drop to the 2nd round and pick an actual important/hard to find player with Floridas.

Sure, Vasilevski, Oettinger, Knight, Fleury, Varlamov, Campbell, Samsonov and Knight are nice but you can't forget that 70% of starting goaltenders are drafted outside the first round. Most aren't developped in house too.

Build a team and worry about the G later. Look at Ullmark, look at Thompson, Shesterkin, Georgiev, Vanecek, jones, Sorokin, etc.
I agree and they need more time to develop for starter position. If you draft them now, you still need around 5 years, that is 2028.

Depends on the goalie available, I'd also be fine waiting in the second round. Be I think we should draft one early in 2023.

Spencer Sova sounds interesting, went undrafted last year but is one of the top goal scoring bluliners in the OHL this year just ahead of Mailloux.

He had a terrible u18s. Looked dumb as a brick on the ice. Zero IQ. Terrific skater though. I imagine someone takes him this year in mid-rounds.

Anyone watch Djibril Toure? He plays for Sudbury in the OHL, D+1 but first year in that league.

Someone brought him up as potential overages draft pick. From Dorval, 6’7 right shot dman who apparently skates well and is physical. Has 10 pts in 16 games, and got C rating from CSS.

Wonder if he could be a high risk pick in the mid rounds

I've watched him live 3 times. He was good twice and pretty bad once. I noticed he had a bit of an edge to his game though one game I was at he made a hit and someone tried to fight him and he fought with his gloves on which I thought was funny. Over the games I saw he has 1 G 2A if I remember correctly, a nice goal top corner and then a couple nice passes. I didnt think he was 6'7 but that is what he's listed as everywhere. He's got a slight build to him, I'd think he wants to add some mass to that frame. Worth taking a flyer on? Maybe, though I'm not sure what he's doing is anything special for a 19 year old in the OHL. Still, hard to not think of Xhekaj when you hear his story.

Are we sure Colby Barlow is only 17?

Really tall & rangy. Despite being an overager he doesn't look physically ready to turn pro. He's like 6'7, 200lb.

If you draft him, it's with the understanding you're sending him back for his 20 year old season.

It's his rookie season in OHL after 2 years of Canadian Collegiate. He's a good skater not clunky at all. Pretty smooth. Uses his stick well, and is physical. Not highly skilled. This year's Lamoureux/Warren project pick.

I have him as a 2nd half riser. Warren was ranked 5th round early last year & went 2nd.

Lamoureux was ranked 3rd round and went 1st.

Think this kid goes 3rd-5th.

I was hoping the Habs would get Warren this past draft!

You’re right, this is his age 19 (so D+2, I thought D+1). Still an interesting profile, I wouldn’t be upset to take him in the 3rd

Smith could become the next Suzuki, or not. He has the same strengths and weaknesses of Suzuki in his draft year. Terrific puck skills and offensive awarenesses, high IQ, but kid is an average skater, he is rather weak physically and easy to separate from the puck while his motor on 200 ft a bit too low.

Suzuki had an awesome developmental curve, there is a possibility that Smith doesnt follow the same path and ends up as a RNH more than a Suzuki and Im really not a RNH fan.

I think I would pick Barlow over Smith personally, higgest floor and safer to reach his celling, what is a Meier like player.

Talking of Smith, Ive been watching some USNDTP lately and Gabe Perreault is pretty legit as well, very talented player, great vision and playmaking skills, strong puckhandler and solid offensive awarenesses, he is pretty close to Smith in term of talent from what Ive seen so far, both could end up being picked around 10-15. There is also Oliver Moore, easily one of the strongest skater in the draft, so fast and powerful, good puckhandler and very high motor, not sure his offensive awarenesses are on the same level as Smith and Perreault though, but his tools are easily translatable to the pro, thats a kid I would target with our 2nd pick if still there. A pure gamer that plays with very high intensity every shifts.

Watched Cristall vs Seatle and he didnt do much but he faced one of the top teams in the West so I will have to rewatch him.

Edit: Note that Smith is playing on the top line with 2 projected 1st rounders in Perreault and Leonard while Moore is centering the 2nd line with less talented players.

If the Habs miss the playoffs, but end up picking outside the Top-10 (11th to 16th), will there still be great players available? Or is there a drop off in the middle of the 1st round?

There are a lot of good players who should normally be in the top 10 and may fall out just because of the sheer number of talented prospects in this draft.

Players like Andrew Cristall, Colby Barlow and Will Smith etc etc may not even go Top 10 but they normally would in a regular draft. The WHL in particular has an abundance of talented forwards in this draft:

Bedard
Benson
Yager
Cristall
Heidt
Barlow

They could all go in the Top 20.

I think there a pretty clear drop of after 4~8~15 and past 15 the next tier is pretty big like 16 to 44 still early so that will break into 2 or 3 groups tiers…
At 11th I’m sure we get a great player either someone will drop or will have the best of the reste but at 16th will get someone good but I don’t think it will be someone really dynamic or as exciting…
