At least Smith seems happy to be a Shark. Was a bit worried he wanted to go to Montreal, and would have been upset being drafted here, especially since he could potentially go to BC for 4 years and sign wherever he wants.

2-5 was pretty much a toss up for BPA depending on who you ask, including the scouts Bobby margarita talked to.

Obviously Smith was BPA to Grier and company.

Analysts, which means they did not scout the players themselves. Bobs list is done by asking a bunch of head of scouting departments, a much better idea of what teams are thinking.

Smith is hardly a guarantee, but he absolutely has #1C upside and other than Michkov no one on the board had potential as high as Smith. He was always the guy and I’m excited to watch him next season.

I think it's a case where it's a deep forward draft and not a ton of high-end D talent.

I think it is sensible move to play one more year at NCAA. Jack Hughes was not quite NHL-ready in his rookie year and NCAA is very good place to develop Smith's game as his game is not yet NHL-ready either. It is also super fun to experience university student life so that too.
