GDT: 2023 NHL Entry Draft Day 2 Rounds 2-7 - 11AM ET, ESPN, ESPN+

You know what? I am all aboard the trade Schneider for the 11th pick train. I know others don't like adding our first to it, but I'd add our first to get back Garland at 50%. Who gives a shit? This is supposed to be fun guys so lets not take it too seriously.

Let's make it yuge. Schneider, Goodrow and 23rd for 11th, Garland @50% and Kravtsov. I heard he has a contract in Russia, but he put the puck between his legs once and scored. We could use skill like that on this team.

Also a bit of writeup on Daniil But, out of the Black Book:

"One of the most pleasant things we saw was his compete level without the puck this season. He’s a demon on the backcheck, never quitting or letting up. He uses his athletic ability to track the puck-carrier. We have seen him track players through all three zones, eventually stealing the puck from them in his zone after basically hounding them from net to net. He made one of the craziest efforts we saw this season, tracking an opponent from the offensive to the neutral zone, stealing the puck at his own blueline using great stick work. This led to a goal off the rush after creating this turnover and was clearly one of the most impressive sequences we saw from any player this season.

These backchecking efforts do come with pitfalls. He needs to be careful about stick infractions (he had a bit too many of them this season), and to learn how to use his stick in a smarter way to bother opponents and steal pucks from them. He did make some improvements over the course of the season in that he took fewer penalties, but still needs to be more careful out there. We think he’s just figuring things out on the ice, and going forward should be able to improve this. On the PK, he knows how to force passes into specific spaces that he can then intercept them in. He also knows how to skate using wide, sweeping arcs with his stick, using stick timing to intercept the pass, plus use his range and his ability to time it right up there. There are a lot of similarities with Valeri Nichushkin's game (minus the skating smoothness at the same age) and his defensive abilities are just another example of this.

He’s also a terror on the forecheck, not by being a dominant, physical, punishing player, but he’s quick to get on the forecheck, uses a good puck-pursuit game, and is good at retrieving pucks. As he gets physically stronger, he’s going to be more physically dominant and slowly learn to be more a punishing type of power-forward. We have seen glimpses of him starting to dominate along the boards and finish hits with authority, but he’s still getting used to his massive frame and learning how to use it more. There is also a mental switch that needs to take place to unlock his potential as a dominant physical player. At this point, as he is still very raw, it’s unknown if he’s going to turn that switch on for every game."

Musty @ 23. If not, then:

Nick Lardis - great skater, great shot, great athlete, will be a scorer in the NHL. RW.

Gracyn Sawchyn - very good playmaking skills. Good skater. Needs to bulk up. C.

Edward Sale- Compete level? No defense. Does not play in the paint. Great skater, good shot ,very good skill when he has the puck. Scoring not proven. A bit shy about this. Could be the steal of the draft or boom or bust.

Charlie Stramel - I've said my piece before. Big, physical, hits everything, good skater, Scoring in question, so far. We will see next year. C/RW. NYR don't have a player like this. Would be an ideal playoff player. Every Rangers fan favorite pick.

Andrew Cristall - Phenomenal hands, shot and playmaking skills. Has to work on his skating, which he is already. If he can better his skating, he will be a steal. Size?

Cal Ritchie - safe pick. C.

Any other player the Rangers select, I will support.

Good luck to NYR!

Would love to add Sawchyn to go with Leschyshyn. Let's stack the C with consonants.

Anyway, looking forward to the next Karl Henriksson for our farm.

I like him. Real interesting combo of size and skill. I think he one of those players that at some point when he's realizes he is bigger and stronger then most of his opponents that's when the light switch goes on and the game elevates to another level. Wouldn't be dissapointed if he was the pick.

Poor Sam!

I used to watch Adam Fantilli play at Kimball Union Academy as a 15 year old. KUA was a rival team of mine in high school. He was already better than his older brother, who may have a career in Europe or the AHL. One of their assistant coaches is an old friend who used to play goal for Cornell.

I'd like nothing more than to see us trade up and get him, but I don't think we have the assets.

He’s a great player and has the tools to be a dominant player throughout his career, but we’d have to trade into the top-3, and there’s really no realistic way to do that without essentially starting another rebuild

Yeah, if But really truly clicks, he can end up as a Top 5 guy in the class imo

NHL Network talking about the 2003 draft on one of being the best ever, thanks for the reminder and thanks for messing it up Rangers management.

has any team ever just not even bother drafting and let the timer run out? Drury probably should do that, he has been wasting away all the assets so far, maybe he will try doing it in a new creative way.

I don't buy this. He's dominated at every level he's played at and keeps meeting the challenges that each level presents.

More likely he's Jack Eichel 2.0 than Lafreniere or Yakupov.
20-21 U18
Bedard 7-7-14 in 7GP
Michkov 12-4-16 in 7GP

21-22 U18
Bedard 6-1-7 in 4GP
Michkov 5-8-13 in 5GP

21-22 U20
Bedard 4-4-8 in 7GP
Michkov 3-0-3 in 2GP

Total
Bedard 17-12-29 in 18GP (1.6 PPG)
Michkov 20-12-32 in 14GP (2.3 PPG)

For reference, Fantilli didn't even make any of those teams at that age. Fantilli had 5pts in 7GP at the U20 a YEAR AFTER those U20’s I posted for Bedard & Michkov, in a more depleted tournament in terms of talent.

The gap between Michkov & Fantilli is absolutely massive.

not to mention the fact this pic was over 3 years ago and he already looked not a day shy of 35. He is a prime example of the prototypical bust who finished puberty at 15.
